Why oh why did I call Adrien last night? I run my fingers through my hair. I’m on edge. Adrien and I have done every presentation together before, and that's why.

He’s my sounding board. It’s why we worked so well with each other in the past.

This presentation though is a big fucking deal. Of course Adrien would suggest we bang the nerves out of me.

That’s our other pre-presentation ritual.

I laugh to myself, and feel myself getting hot and my skin pinking.

“Do I want to know what?” he pauses “or who you’re thinking about?”

Alex sits down in front of me in the breakfast area at the hotel. We agreed, last night, to go through everything in the morning.

“You know just because you’re changing a lot of things doesn’t mean you’re telling them that what they were doing was wrong.”

“I know. It’s just Susan keeps looking at me like I don’t know what I’m talking about. She probably thinks Adrien only offered me this job because we’re getting married.”

Alex just smiles at me.

“What?” I ask.

“It's the first time you’ve said you’re still marrying him since we got here.”

I look at the ring and twist it on my finger.

“It was never an option not to. I’ve loved the guy for far too long.”

“Ok. Good.”

Alex pulls out his iPad, and we go through what each of us is going to say in there.

An hour later we sat in the middle of the conference room and the room was full for the first time all week. I looked around and a small part of me thought Adrien might have turned up.

That’s stupid right?

I know he trusts me and I know he has complete faith in me to get the job done.

I pull out my phone and call him. Walking out of the room while we wait for a few more people to arrive.

“Hi” he answers straight away.

“Hi. Adrien, I'm doing the right thing right?”

“Of course you are. You don’t need to be nervous. All your ideas were great. You and Alex have really gone the way I envisioned as well.”

“I wish you were here. You know how I get before a big presentation.”

“Where are you?” He asks me and his voice has changed a little.

“I’m outside the conference room.”

“Go down the corridor. There's a door, and it leads to the small workspaces.”

I go down the corridor and open one of the doors. It’s like a small cubicle but has a door.

Again, I was hoping to see Adrien hiding there.
