TWENTY-FIVE
TORQUE
I don’t know whether to be happy Izzy and the girls get along, or if I should run for the hills.
I walk downstairs and see Dad, Stone, King, Shadow, Viper, and Sniper hanging around by the bar. I head towards them. Dad nods at me and asks, “Izzy all settled?”
I nod. “She’s taking a shower and Mom is going to grab her some clothes to wear until we get her stuff.”
“She going to stay here until we figure out what’s going on?” Viper asks curiously.
I nod. “That’s the plan. Though she’s made it clear that she doesn’t want to be lazy all day and would prefer to come to the shop work.”
Dad glances at the rest of the guys. “Any concerns on that?”
“I mean, the biggest thing is keeping her off the mob’s radar,” Shadow says thoughtfully. “They don’t know she came to you, not yet anyway, and her being out in the open will be a problem.”
“Could keep the bay door down and have someone else bring the vehicles in and out for her,” I suggest. “We might get caught up, and we can test her out to make sure that she’s going to fit in with the shop.”
“You think she won’t?” Dad asks curiously.
I shake my head. “Nah. I think she’ll fit in just fine.”
“Just need to make sure there is no opportunity to grab her,” Shadow adds.
“We can keep a prospect on her at all times,” I point out. “Carson or Kaleb could also be the ones to do the test drives for her so she’s not out.”
They all nod. “That’s a good plan,” Dad agrees. “We’ll also plan on upping patrols around the perimeter to make sure no one tries to come onto the compound. Cryos can monitor the cameras too.” He grins at me. “Izzy seems like a smart woman, so she shouldn’t cause us any trouble and try to sneak out.”
I snort. “She seems level-headed so I’d have to agree with that.”
“Better keep her away from the girls then,” Shadow mutters with a scowl.
I laugh, unable to help myself. The last time the mob was involved Sage, Mom, Leonora, and Raven snuck out and got themselves arrested. “Something tells me that Izzy won’t let that happen. She’s smart and is taking this seriously.”
“My woman was too and she still managed to land her ass in jail,” King chuckles.
“She’s the one who started it,” I remind him pointedly. “It was also her idea to moon a cop car. So instead of avoiding Mom, maybe I should be telling her to avoid Sage instead.”
King shrugs. “What we should be doing is sending Izzy over with Syn and the dogs if she has to be alone,” he says thoughtfully. “No one can get past those two.”
He has a point. It is kind of handy having a neighbor that trains police K9s. Hell, Sage got kidnapped by one of Dmitri’s goons and Loki, Syn’s male K9, went after him and ended up getting shot. Ebony, her female, was the one to take down another when we found them getting ready to kill Sage.
“We could ask Syn and the dogs to hang out around here when we’re busy or in Church,” Sniper suggests. “Good deterrent.”
“Why the hell do you want a woman who is connected to the damn cops around here so much?” Stone demands, looking irritated. “Sure, she helped us out with Sage, but you ask me, we’re asking for trouble when the cops come sniffing around, because she sure as hell isn’t going to take our side.”
“You don’t know that,” King protests, frowning. “She’s been nothing but helpful around here, brother. Just because you have your dick in a twist about her doesn’t mean she isn’t a good option.”
“I don’t have my dick in a twist about her,” Stone says snaps. “I think you’re all missing a big piece of the puzzle with her, and don’t come crying to me when I’m right.”
King rolls his eyes. “What you need to do is grow a set and fuck her already. We know the two of you want each other, you’re being stupid for not doing what you both want.”
“I don’t sleep with cops,” Stone snaps.
“She’s not a cop,” I feel obligated to point out. “She’s a K9 trainer, sure, but she also works with other non-law enforcement clients.”
“Whatever,” Stone dismisses.
