“Ah,” he said. “It’s weird, but you are not the first person from our school I’ve heard that from. Our school should have done a better job teaching us about finances.”

“Or I could have just pulled my head out of my ass and recognized money didn’t grow on trees,” I muttered. “I’m not blaming anyone but myself. Although I do wish my parents would have been more involved. Anyway, long story short, I’m like so many other Americans. I’m drowning in student loans and credit card debt. I was looking for a quick fix and Faux’s seemed like a great option. I’ve learned my lesson and have since learned to budget, but the debt is a burden. I’ve thought about getting a second job or moving somewhere that pays the teachers more. I know there are other ways. I just thought this was the quickest way out.”

“Understandable,” he said. “I get it. I’m glad you are doing something for yourself.”

“Thank you.”

“Do your parents know what you’re doing?” he asked.

“No! Most definitely not. Only Norah knows. This isn’t something I’m ready to brag about.”

“Your secret, which happens to be my secret, is safe with me.”

“Thank you.”
