I’m sure it was all romantic how he carried me to his bed and then we stripped each other bare, but honestly the details were lost on me because there’d been some kind of bond made with our mouths and we barely came up for air.

On autopilot, our bodies had a conversation only our hearts could hear.

I’d wanted to please and give to him, but there was this new sense of balance I’d never noticed before. The scales were level. The seas had calmed. The playing field was even and we found peace in the passion we shared for each other.

In no rush, we explored each other, feeling and kissing until we reached a fevered frenzy. He rolled me to my back and settled his hips between my thighs.

“I’ll never have enough of this.” With those words, he surged forward, filling me—physically and emotionally—completely. “You’re here, in my arms. I’m inside you, and I still want more.”

His deep, rhythmic pace ignited a frenzy inside me. “Yes, I’m yours.”

Air hissed through his teeth as he paused, seated to the hilt, and rolled his hips, sending the most beautiful stars past the backs of my eyelids.

“Say my name,” he ordered.

His request came at the perfect time, because soon I wouldn’t be able to say anything coherent.

“Bowen.” My breath hitched as his grip on my hip tightened, causing me to rock into him and gaining us more of each other. “Bo—ah… Bowen.”

“That’s right.” His mouth wandered away from mine and found my ear. “Don’t you dare hold back when you come, Remi. I need it all.”

His tone. His words. His intention. Everything about Bowen Michaels laid claim to everything Remi Grey there in that bed.

My entire body flushed. My limbs began to lose strength, yet they’d never felt so much power. My core tightened and it would only be seconds until I was over the edge.

“Oh, there’s my girl. Give it to me, Remi.” Propping himself on an elbow, he found the nape of my neck with his hand and artfully tugged the back of my hair just as my orgasm arrived.

I’d like to know where he’d gotten the notion that when he was inside me I had any control of what I kept to myself or happily handed over. I was nothing more than a sentient being along for the ride in a body possessed by this one and only man.

My man.

“Oh, God,” I cried.

As he pushed his forehead against mine, our eyes locked and he didn’t have to say anything. I felt it all.

We came together—the way we’d be doing everything from that moment on.

Together.

We didn’t bother getting up. For several moments, we lay there, catching our breaths. He hugged me to his chest, holding me as he was still inside me. That connection, paired with the one in our hearts, had me falling asleep to the last words out of his mouth.

“How do I love you so fucking much?”

I didn’t answer because I felt the same unexplainable way about him.

Bowen

For a man who had spent the night making love to an obscenely beautiful woman, I didn’t have quite the pep in my step that I should have.

Remi was sound asleep when I’d crawled out of bed. With limited time together, I hated the idea of leaving her there, but I needed a few minutes to clear my head.

While I brewed a pot of coffee, I fed the dogs and then took my mug and a ball from the sorely neglected toy basket outside to the swinging bed. Sugar was all over me. For as much as the maniac drove me nuts sometimes, I’d missed him all kinds of crazy like. Even Clyde appeared happier to have him back.

But for how long?

Remi had made comments the night before, tossing around the words we and us like they weren’t already tattooed on my soul. But I had a sneaking suspicion her idea of we and us was slightly different than mine. Only days earlier, she had been pretending to be Raven Brightmore and telling me how much being around me hurt.

Despite my nervous breakdown, I was grateful beyond measure that she’d come to me when she’d been in need. Maybe that was the we and us she’d meant.

And if it was, that was okay. It stung. Hope was a real bitch like that. But we’d get there someday. Eventually. Maybe. Possibly.

Dear God, please let us get there.

But this, the woe-is-me, Debbie Doomsday, the-sky-is-falling bullshit could wait until she was gone again. I had a lot of reasons to smile that morning.

Remi was getting her memories back. The good ones. It was exactly what I’d hoped for when she’d come back into my life. A way to ease her into the past without the trauma snuffing out the light in her eyes.

We were finally on a path again. It didn’t matter how long, or twisted, or winding it might be. For so long, I’d been living on either repeat or pause. Moving forward, no matter the pace, was a huge step in the right direction. Long distance would suck, but I’d gladly take whatever I could get.
