I was weak when it came to soulmates.

I rubbed at the side of my head. Hex was coming into this in a very different way. We were married now; we had a house; we had kids; we had a business. This was an entirely different sort of animal.

“Where do you want to sleep tonight?” I decided to just fucking ask him. What harm could come from that?

“Um, what?” Hex blinked at me as I moved over to the whistling teapot and set about preparing some peppermint tea. This time, I grabbed some candy canes from the cupboard, unwrapped them, and used them to stir the hot tea. They melted into it, sweetening the brew and adding extra peppermint flavor. Also, they were spelled for easier sleep. “What do you mean by that, exactly …”

“Do you want your own room to start?” I began, clearing my throat and picking up the two mugs to carry them over to his side of the room. I set them both down while flickering candles and some leftover Halloween lights added some ambience to the occasion. “I’m not sure when or if we’ll be able to retrieve your things, but at least you’ve got your motorcycle.” I smiled at him as he leaned in toward me; he’d left his Harley here before we’d headed off for Hael together.

“You want to take a ride?” Hex asked, and my mouth parted. Oh. Motorcycle-riding half-demon douche he might be, but I already had one husband with a bike—Caine—and I knew the thrill of going for a ride behind a hot, hard man with some leather on his shoulders.

I picked up my tea and forced myself to drink it to hide my eagerness at the idea.

“Maybe.” Definitely. I’m such a liar. “But seriously, would you like me to clear out one of the upstairs bedrooms? I can move out everything; you can paint.” I set the mug down again as Hex worked his jaw in thought.

“I’ve never lived anywhere but my grandma’s place,” he offered with a wry twist of his lips, taking a sip of the peppermint tea. Not unusual and not a part of his douche status. No, witches liked to set down roots and stay in one place, bond with their land and their house and their coven. That part of him was normal. “So this is gonna be weird for me for sure.”

It was fun to think about starting a new relationship with the fifth and final soulmate in our circle, but it was daunting, too. How was Hex supposed to interact with my kids? As a stepdad? And how was he going to deal with my husbands treating his child as one of theirs? Because they would, undoubtedly.

“For now, yeah, I’ll take a room,” he agreed on the end of an exhale. “But don’t clear anything out just yet. As you said, I may not be able to go home and get my stuff.”

Hex finished his tea off and then stood up; I did the same.

“You can have your pick of any unoccupied room. Take a look around. Explore. Relax.” I reached up and put a hand on his shoulder, giving it a rub before I peeled away and headed for the doorway. At the last second, Hex caught up to me and wrapped his arms around me from behind.

“You’ll start to see what it’s like,” he whispered, as if this was any kind of threat, “to have me as a boyfriend.”

“A boyfriend?” I replied with a caustic snort, but then his lips were on my neck, and my knees were getting weak from the heat of him, the slick slide of his tongue along my pulse.

“What I mean is, you’ll see what I’m like when I’m not holding back.” He released me and then turned me around, taking my face in his hands and kissing me goodnight. “Sleep tight, Grace.”

Hex slipped past me and headed for the stairs. I heard him open one door and then try another; that one was locked. Because Monster was in there. A few more doors down and Hex’s footsteps creaked into the room, the door shut, and then it was just me, myself, and two feline familiars curled up together on the rug in front of the fireplace.

I raised an eyebrow at them as I passed by and headed up the stairs to my bedroom.

The boys were all in there, spaced out in the bed and engaged in various activities. Caine was asleep, Spectre was reading, and Argent was mixing herbs with a pestle and mortar, a silver tray resting on his lap.

I crawled onto the end of the bed with a small sigh.

“How was the sex?” Spectre asked absently, without even bothering to look up.

I picked at the fibers on the quilt absently as Caine rolled over with a growl, likely butt-ass-naked under that blanket. I pretended not to be curious. He stared at me with amber eyes as Argent slowed his grinding and looked up at me.
