Lark’s lips curved in a half-frown. “I’m not even fifty, but I’d leave age out of this.”
“You’re my age,” Gamble said, glaring at me.
“No,” I said.
“He’s younger than you, G, but he’s still twenty years older than our girl,” Block said.
“Woman. She isn’t a girl any more.” I looked to Gamble. “You raised her to have a good head on her shoulders.”
“Know her own mind?” Nickel asked, then added, “I knew that was bullshit. The two of you fuckin’ lied to us.”
“So are you, since you clearly haven’t worked on getting over the age thing.”
His eyes narrowed on me, then he glanced at Ricochet. “You’re awful quiet.”
“She’s always gone after what she wants,” Ricochet said, meeting Nickel’s gaze.
Nickel stared at him. “You knew.”
Ricochet opened his mouth, but Nickel kept at him.
“You fucking knew and didn’t tell me.”
“Found out yesterday.”
“Plenty of time to call me,” Nickel said.
“Why would I? You would’ve reacted this way if not worse.”
“It’s gross, man. He’s twenty years older than her.”
Anger clouded Ricochet’s face. “We’ve been shootin’ pool with him every week for over two years, and now he’s gross? That’s bullshit. He makes her happy, happier than I’ve ever seen her.”
“She can do better,” Nickel muttered.
I sighed and clenched my fists.
Ricochet glared at Nickel. “Better how? Don’t you think he wants the best for her? Hell, every man in this room wants the best for her. She can’t do any fuckin’ better than one of our brothers.”
“This is a chapter issue, how about the Biloxi brothers give us twenty minutes?” Patch suggested.
“I’m not leaving,” Gamble clipped out.
“Me neither, he’s got more explainin’ to do,” Tiny said.
“Damn right,” Block muttered.
“You’re gonna need some of us here to hold the others back,” Roman said.
Lark held up a folded document. “If nobody’s leaving, this impacts the bar. All four of us signed a contract agreeing to no sexual harassment.”
“She didn’t harass shit,” I bit out.
Lark met my gaze. “Gettin’ involved with customers is specifically listed.”
Ricochet leaned forward to look past Nickel to Lark. “What the fuck did you do with that woman last summer?”
Lark turned to him. “Which is why the contract got revised. Either the language means something or it doesn’t.”
