As much as I would’ve liked to sit my ass down for the rest of the night, I still had a couple of calls to make.

And one of them was about David.

The conversation between me and Cassian had been pretty neutral, but that still didn’t change shit for me. I was getting the hell up out of here one way or another.

Especially after this nigga had taken my phone and tried to put me on punishment like I was some little-ass kid.

Okay, maybe I had been acting like a brat, but what the fuck did he expect from me?

Everything I knew had pretty much been snatched from under me overnight. One minute, I was celebrating my birthday with my family, thinking everything was good. The next, I found out my father had promised me away over some debt, got taken to an underground auction, and now I was staying in the house of a man I barely knew.

Anybody would be losing their damn mind.

I let out a deep breath and fell back across the bed, staring up at the ceiling. I didn’t know how the hell I was going to get myself out of this situation yet, but I knew sitting around waiting for Cassian to decide what happened to me wasn’t an option.

I needed to figure something out, and soon.

After lying awake for hours, I decided to head back downstairs to see if Cassian was still down there. When I reached the bottom of the stairs, I looked around the living room and kitchen, but his ass was nowhere to be found.

“Cassian?” I called out, waiting to see if he would answer me.

I stood still and listened. No footsteps, no TV, no sign of his ass anywhere. My eyes went straight to the front door.

This might’ve been my only chance to get the fuck up out of here.

I walked over to the door and grabbed the handle, but when I tried to open it, the shit wouldn’t budge.

“Of course,” I mumbled, sucking my teeth.

I looked at the wall near the door and saw the alarm panel lit up. I wasn’t about to start pressing random shit and have this man knowing what I was doing before I even got a chance to get out.

Stepping away from the door, I headed toward the back of the house. There had to be another way out of here. This nigga lived in a big-ass house, so I knew damn well the front door wasn’t the only exit.

I tried the back door next, but that wasn’t getting me anywhere either.

“Man, what the fuck?”

I stood there with my hands on my hips, trying to think of what else I could do. That was when my eyes landed on another door off to the side of the kitchen that I hadn’t paid much attention to before.

I walked over, opened it, and saw the garage on the other side.

A smile spread across my face.

“Got yo’ ass.”

I stepped inside and looked around. Cassian’s truck was gone, which meant his ass had definitely left. That was all the confirmation I needed.

My attention went straight to the garage door and the button on the wall beside it.

For a second, I stared at it because there was no way in hell getting out of this man’s house was about to be this damn easy. Still, I walked over and pressed it.

The garage door started lifting.

I quickly looked back toward the door leading into the house, half expecting Cassian’s big ass to come walking through it asking me what the fuck I thought I was doing.

Nothing happened.

Once the garage door was high enough, I hurried underneath it and stepped outside. I didn’t know where the hell I was, I didn’t have my phone, and I damn sure didn’t have a car, but none of that mattered right now.
