I was out.
Now I just had to figure out how the hell I was getting home.
I walked down the driveway and looked both ways once I reached the street. The neighborhood was quiet as hell, and from what I could see, there wasn’t a store or anything else close enough for me to walk to.
Damn. Maybe I hadn’t thought this shit all the way through.
Still, I wasn’t turning around and going back into that damn house. I picked a direction and started walking.
The longer I walked, the more it felt like I wasn’t getting anywhere. Every street was starting to look the damn same, and I could’ve sworn I had passed some of the same businesses more than once.
I kept going anyway.
After walking a little farther, I glanced over my shoulder and noticed a black SUV creeping down the street behind me.
My steps slowed. That was the same damn SUV I had noticed a few blocks back.
At first, I tried not to think too much into it. Maybe whoever was driving was lost or looking for an address. But every time I picked up my pace, the truck would speed up a little. When I slowed down, so did they.
This shit was starting to feel weird.
I faced forward and kept walking, trying not to make it obvious that I was paying attention to them.
About ten minutes later, a horn sounded behind me.
I ignored it.
The SUV pulled closer, and a second later, I heard a window rolling down.
“Aye, pretty lady. You need a ride?”
I glanced over, but it was too dark inside the truck for me to make out the man’s face. The only thing I could really see was the gold shining across his teeth when he smiled at me.
“No, I’m good.”
I turned my attention back ahead and kept walking.
I didn’t know who the hell this man was, and I damn sure wasn’t getting in no car with him. I might’ve been desperate to get away from Cassian’s controlling ass, but I wasn’t that fucking stupid.
The SUV continued creeping beside me.
“Come on, ma. I can take you wherever you trying to go.”
“I said I’m good.”
My heart started beating a little faster as I picked up my pace.
The SUV stayed right there.
Before the man could say anything else, another horn sounded behind us.
I looked back.
“Oh, fuck.”
Cassian’s truck.
My fucking heart dropped straight to my stomach.
