Ace erupts into laughter. “Don’t beat around the bush.”
Colt doesn’t react, and neither do I.
In his dreams. Or mine? I don’t know anymore. Colten has my brain scrambled.
“No. I was asking Colten if he knows of anywhere I can go dancing.”
“Rosie’s is safest for you round here,” Jett tells me instantly.
I nod along. “Safest?”
“We own it,” Colt confirms, crossing his arms, making his biceps look huge.
He licks his lips, his eyes burning into mine. I am loving every second of this. I’m alive here, even if I am winding my husband up into a frenzy. It’s good to be free. Not having to worry about what my father thinks about my every move.
CHAPTER TWENTY-SEVEN
Colten
Hunter clears his throat as the room falls silent. Gianna is glaring at me, and I’m refusing to even glance her way. She’s got me right where she wants me. She knew I wanted to apologize. She knew I was at her door. She doesn’t miss a trick.
But the thought of her takin’ another man home makes my skin crawl.
“I thought this information might also interest you, Gianna,” Hunter says.
Her eyes light up as she turns her attention to him.
“We have some intel that Nikos and Stafanos Kourakos are in Mykonos. They have some family fronting a restaurant on the coast. After everything they’ve done, we can’t let them sit back and regroup. We have to end them.”
She rubs her hands together like an excited little kitten. “I’ll happily take a vacation to Greece and get it done,” Gianna confirms.
My mouth acts before my brain can catch up. “We,” I cut in.
All eyes are on me.
“I can manage with Dom just fine, Colt. You guys are plenty busy here on the ranch. I wouldn’t want to take you away from that. I’ll fly out, slit their throats, and be on my merry way home,” she says almost sweetly.
I chuckle, running a hand through my hair. “No deal. You think I trust you out there on your own?”
She scowls at me. “What do you think I’m going to go join forces with the assholes who have tried to kill me, murdered my brother, and want to take my family's organization?” She cackles out a laugh. “I’ve spent the last few weeks purchasing every piece of property they own in LA to ensure they can never come back and hide anywhere. You honestly believe I’d let those mother fuckers live?”
I shift in my seat; that fire, the way she snaps back at me, it should not turn me on.
“Might be a family trait switching sides,” I say coolly.
She scoffs, waving her hand. “Then you are dumber than I thought, Colten, if you can’t make simple observations about me.”
I frown. “Enlighten me?”
Jett is vibrating with excitement in the seat beside me; I don’t know how or when it happened, but he pops open a bag of popcorn and shoves a heapful into his mouth. The excessively loud chewing makes my eye twitch.
“I forced you into a marriage with me because I wanted to align with your family. Why the fuck would I put myself through this ordeal with you if I intended to side with the Greeks? That makes little to no sense.”
I suck in a breath. “So you’re telling me we can trust you? Seriously?”
She shrugs. “Your brothers can. You? That’s up for debate, but it depends what kind of trust we’re talking about.”
“Ooooh, burn,” Jett whispers as he throws popcorn directly at my head.
