“You want me to get it?”

“No.”

“You sure?”

“Yes.”

She disappeared and a few minutes later, Janelle reappeared.

“He left a voicemail.”

“Thank you.”

She grinned. “Did you fuck him?”

My head snapped up. “What?”

She immediately lifted both hands. “Damn. So no.”

“He’s married.”

Janelle’s eyebrows raised, and I immediately regretted telling her that.

“He is?”

“Yepppp.”

“Shit.”

“Exactly.”

“Did you know?”

“Obviously not.”

She stared at me for another second and when she saw me look away, she knew the conversation was over. She disappeared before I sat back in my chair. I stared at the voicemail notification.

“Hey, Blair. It’s Caleb.”

As if I didn’t know.

“I’m not calling about… anything personal. There’s an issue behind the main bar. The contractor says it’s a design problem. I told him he’s full of shit, but before I fire someone unnecessarily, can you look at it? Call me or have somebody from your office call. Either is fine.”

I called the contractor first. Twenty minutes later, I learned the contractor was, in fact, full of shit. Which meant I had to go to the property.

Caleb wasn’t there when I arrived. I was relieved and kinda disappointed. Healing is ghetto.

I spent twenty minutes with the contractor explaining why the problem had absolutely nothing to do with my specifications.

He argued before I showed him the original drawings. Men loved documentation right up until documentation proved them wrong.

By the time I finished, I was standing behind the bar taking pictures when I heard—

“How much do I owe you?”

I looked up and Caleb stood on the other side of the bar. My eyes went straight to his hand where he still didn’t wear a wedding ring.

“You already paid me,” I said.
