“For today.”
“It’s still the warranty period.”
“That’s generous of you.”
“It’s part of the contract.”
I immediately looked back at my phone. “Your contractor was full of shit.”
“I knew it wasn’t your fault.”
“Then why call me?”
“Because he said it was.”
“You believed him?”
“No.”
I looked up. “Then why call me?”
“I really needed you to look at it.”
“Did you?”
“Yes.”
“Okay.”
I slid my phone into my bag. “Well, I looked. It’s handled. Have a good day.”
I started walking towards the exit.
“Blair.”
My dumb ass stopped. Thirteen days. I had spent thirteen days getting that man’s voice out of my head and somehow hearing my name come out his mouth put everything right back.
I turned. “What?”
“I’m sorry.”
“You said that already.”
“I know.”
“Then stop. Stop apologizing.”
“Why?”
“Because it makes me feel like you expect me to eventually tell you that it’s okay.”
“You don’t.”
“Good, because I’m not.”
“I know.”
I hated how easily he accepted everything.
