“I am not going to die. You know I’m too fucking stubborn for that.” I take a step back and smile at him. “Besides, I have the Harknetts with me, and I don’t think there’s anyone in New York who knows how capable they are better than you do.”

“That is true…” he sniffles. “But maybe we should go. Logan was right; we shouldn’t be in the open when we have no idea who the psycho is.”

“Stop. Don’t go analyzing everything; we are surrounded by our friends,” I say, pointing at the security cameras. “We have Alexios checking everything that happens inside this club, and Alistair is in our booth.”

“Fine… When is Knox coming back?”

“Let’s not talk about that asshole.” I shudder, turning my back on Leo and walking back toward our table.

Fuck him…

I don’t care where he is or who he’s sleeping with.

We return to the table, and I signal the server for some shots.

I need to numb down this feeling that’s suffocating me.

Because of course I do care where Knox is or who the hell he’s sleeping with.

I care a whole fucking lot.

While I wait for my drink, a guy with short black hair and an unbuttoned shirt leans closer, pressing against me. “Hey, handsome.”

“Not interested,” I say, shoving him off.

“Oh, come on, don’t be like that. Let me get you a drink.”

“Like I said: not interested.”

“Or maybe you’re taken,” he purrs, leaning in closer. “Don’t worry, sweetheart. No one has to know.”

“Unfortunately, I like the asshole too much—” I mutter, and the instant the words leave my lips, I can feel the regret crawling up my chest.

Did I just say that shit out loud?

Fuck…

I turn my head, and yep, there he is.

Standing ten feet away, Alistair is watching the whole interaction. The arched eyebrow and cocky smirk on his face tell me he heard every single word.

God, shoot me now.

I am completely mortified.

Would he guess I was talking about Knox?

Does he know anything?

Will that make the Harknetts switch my main bodyguard?

Damn it…

Annoyed and embarrassed out of my mind, I make my way to the table nd take a shot, chasing it with a sip of wine.

Uh… my bottle is empty.

I lift my glass and gesture to the waiter to bring my last wine bottle they have in storage.
