Every single muscle in my body tensed, and I turned around to face Davix.

I always hated that fucker—and for good reason.

“Look at who decided to show up,” I muttered.

He gripped his waist wounds. “You want my fucking help or not?”

“No, I fucking don’t.”

“Well, you need it.”

“You’re not doing this for me. You’re doing this because your wounds haven’t healed yet, and you’re going to use Ember to do that for you. Then you’re going to get rid of her, like you usually do.”

“That’s exactly what I’m going to do,” Davix growled, glaring at me. His jaw twitched, his eyes flashing a golden color for the slightest moment. He shifted his gaze toward the ground, the way he always used to when he was fighting with his wolf.

I had seen that look too many times when we were younger.

“Fucking dick,” I snarled.

I didn’t give a fuck what he and his wolf were fighting about, but I’d take a shot in the dark and say that it was his wolf wanting Ember and Davix being a complete and utter dickhead who didn’t care about hurting whoever he could.

“Then I’ll find her on my own,” Davix said, turning away.

While I hated that cunt, we actually did need help.

“You can’t find anyone,” I said, “and definitely not in your state.”

Davix twisted on his heel, snapped his hand around my throat, and slammed me against the nearest tree. “I’ll fucking kill you in this state, pup. Why don’t you shut your fucking mouth and find Ember if you can do it all by yourself then?”

“I’m trying, but someone had to interrupt me, acting as if they actually cared.”

“You’re both acting like children, not men,” Hazel said, sneaking herself between us and shoving Davix away from me. When Davix stepped back, she crossed her arms and shook her head. “At this point, I don’t know what Ember sees in either of you.”

“He started it,” Davix growled.

“And you had to try to finish it, didn’t you?” Hazel pointed her finger at him. “Besides, you’re not getting out of the fact that you told Cade to shove it. We could have had our trackers out here earlier, looking for her.”

I crossed my arms and scanned the forest, brows furrowed together.

How could Ember have just disappeared? Was she that important to the Crimson Order that they wanted to start a war with Braveclaw that they couldn’t finish?

There had been tension between Braveclaw and the Crimson Order for the past thousand years.

The Crimson Order wasn’t a myth, like I had tried to mislead Davix with earlier. We just couldn’t let it get out that the Crimson Order was back. Everything would turn into utter chaos, not only in Black Hollows, but everywhere in the world.

The Crimson Order was the most dangerous secret society of lycans ever to grace this land. Braveclaw had wiped the majority of them out, but not all of them.

And now, they’d rebuilt. Now, they were targeting the girl I loved.

My eyes widened. Love? Did I love Ember?

“Why doesn’t Cade ask his little friends at Braveclaw for help? He has more access to them than I do,” Davix growled. “They’re apparently stronger, smarter than the rest of us in Black Hollows, and they should know everything that goes on here.” Davix turned toward me. “You are The Reaper, aren’t you? Or is that nickname just for show?”

A low growl left my throat. “You’re just pissed that I left your pack for them.”

“You didn’t do shit for our pack,” Davix snarled.

“Didn’t do shit? I was your best fucking warrior, you bitch.”
