“You ruined it.”
I laughed and reached across the console, catching her hand before she could reach for the door.
“Come here.”
She looked down at our hands before her eyes came back to mine.
There was no hesitation this time.
Luna leaned across the console, and I met her halfway.
The kiss was softer than either of the ones we shared last night. There was no question behind it and nothing either of us was trying to figure out. My hand settled against the side of her face as her fingers curled loosely around my wrist, and for a few seconds, the bookstore, the time, and everything waiting for us outside the truck could wait.
When I pulled back, she stayed close enough that I could feel her breath against my mouth.
“I thought you had responsibilities.”
Her eyes opened.
“You’re getting on my nerves.”
I smiled. “You got about forty seconds.”
She looked at the dashboard.
“Ellis!”
I laughed as she snatched her bag into her lap and reached for the door.
“You did that on purpose.”
“I didn’t make you kiss me.”
“You told me to come here!”
“And you came.”
She pointed at me. “We’re going to talk about this later.”
“Sounds good to me.”
Her hand reached for the door.
“Wait.”
She looked over at me. “What?”
I didn’t answer. I got out and walked around the front of the car.
By the time I reached her side, she was watching me through the window with an amused look on her face.
I opened the door.
“You know I could’ve done that myself.”
“I know.”
She stepped out, and I closed the door behind her.
