I held my hand out to her.
“But you didn’t.”
Her mouth curved as she slipped her hand into mine.
“No. I didn’t.”
We walked toward Chapter & Charm together, our hands swinging lightly between us. When we reached the entrance, she started to reach for the door, but I got there first.
She looked from my hand on the handle to me.
“What?”
“Nothing.”
“That face says otherwise.”
“I didn’t say anything.”
“You didn’t have to.”
I pulled the door open for her.
She stepped toward the entrance, but I didn’t let go of her hand right away. Instead, I lifted it and pressed a kiss against her knuckles.
Her smile softened.
“See you later, Luna.”
“Later, Ellis.”
I let her hand slip from mine and waited until she was inside before heading back to the car.
The clock on the dashboard changed to 10:00.
Right on time.
The bell above the door chimed when we stepped inside Chapter & Charm.
Naomi looked up from behind the register first.
“Well, look who’s back.”
“Hi, Miss Naomi.”
“Hey, girl.”
Mila barely slowed down. “Where’s Miss Luna?”
Naomi’s eyes found mine, and there was a smile there before she even said anything.
I pointed at her. “Don’t.”
“I didn’t say anything.”
“You don’t have to.”
