The angel chuckled. “I promised you that one day all the struggle, the fighting, the loneliness would be rewarded.” Silas’s pale silver eyes locked on him. “That you would receive a reward that would change your life, that would calm your inner demon, and bring you a happiness like you have never experienced. Like you never knew existed. A reward, Kryos, that would make you feel whole. The missing part of you, that emptiness inside that you’ve had for as long as you can remember would be filled to overflowing.”
Kryos’s heart beat harder, faster, his palms sweating. “I’m not sure what this has to do with Meredith?”
“Don’t you?” Silas said, that fucking smile still plastered on his face.
“I don’t know what the hell you’re talking about.” Kryos barely recognized his own voice.
Silas closed the space between them and rested a hand on his shoulder. “Meredith is that reward, Kryos. You are drawn to her because she is yours. You were made only for each other. Meredith is the only female you will ever want from now on, will ever need…she is your mate.”
“My mate?” he choked out.
Silas grinned wider.
Kryos thrust his fingers into his hair. “You’re sure about this?”
“Of course.”
The air was knocked from Kryos’s lungs, like he’d been punched in the gut. Meredith was his. His mate.
He dragged in a rough breath. He should be freaking the hell out. Shit, recoiling at the idea of being tied to one female, only wanting one female for the rest of eternity.
Instead, what he felt was something else entirely. Possessiveness roared through him, along with a sense of rightness that had the power to knock him off his feet. Meredith was his. Yeah, that’s exactly what she was. He’d been in denial, confused about the way he was feeling since the moment she showed up on his radar. But this felt so incredibly right.
“Okay, so what do I do now?” Kryos asked.
Silas’s brow crunched in confusion. “Well…you mate with her.”
“Mate with her?”
“You know, join giblets or whatever. Sex. You need to fuck to seal the deal.”
Jesus, the angel was clueless when it came to actual relationships and how humans ticked. Considering how old the male was, there was no excuse for that shit. “So I’ll just go get her, then, drag her back to the warehouse, and take her to bed.”
Silas patted his shoulder. “Exactly.”
Kryos groaned and shook his head. “You don’t think she’ll want a say in that?”
“She wants you as well. She just doesn’t understand it, the strength of it,” Silas said. “Go talk to her, tell her you want her, and she’ll be on you like white on rice. You were made for each other. You will always want each other. It’s just how it works.”
“And what happens after we mate?”
“You’ll be bound to each other for eternity, and she’ll be immortal like you.”
Fucking hell.
He was telling the truth, all if it. He could feel it in his soul.
But despite what Silas said, he couldn’t just go to her and profess his…whatever this was he was feeling, and he sure as hell couldn’t just pick her up and bring her home with him.
He had to play this carefully. She was already on the verge of gaining her power, that would be enough to deal with on its own. This as well?
Maybe if he could convince her they should be together before that happened, all of it, it’d be easier on her? Shit.
Silas’s golden wings extended, and he winked at Kryos. “Go get your girl.” Then he flew away.
Sure, he’ll just go get his girl, then.
He planted his hands on his hips and dragged in a ragged breath.
