“Um.” I looked around the empty hallway. “Was there a chance I wouldn’t have survived?”

She didn’t answer, just waltzed right past me and into my private space. “I came to ask you where you wish to eat your breakfast.”

“What are my options?”

“Anywhere but the masters’ wing,” she replied instantly.

“Outside, too?”

She nodded. “We have several spots that are amazing for eating. Jetty does a great job at keeping every area tidy.”

“Outside it is then. I just need someone to show me where.” I really wanted to ask her if the “masters” were asleep during the morning hours, but I figured this would be one of those things that would be better to find out myself. If they kept their distance during these hours, then that had to mean they were resting. Unless they didn’t need the rest? I was growing tired of all these unanswered questions, and I was only one day in.

“I will take you there,” Sienna offered, smiling this time. “You get dressed and I will be back in a few.” She then moved at that wickedly fast pace like yesterday, and she was gone.

I had on sweats and a t-shirt, but I didn’t care much for how I looked right now, so why should I bother changing? Especially if the vampires were asleep anyway, Jacob wouldn’t see me looking like I’d just woken up. Which I had.

I turned to sit on the couch, only to freeze mid-step. Why had I thought about Jacob seeing me? Why did I care what he thought of me? I groaned, falling back onto the comfy couch. Maybe I wouldn’t die because of them killing me, but because of my own damn mind.

“Oh,” Sienna’s disappointed tone had me blinking my eyes. I must’ve fallen asleep right there on the couch. “Is the bed not to your liking?”

“The bed’s fine,” I grumbled, rubbing my eyes. “Just slept funny.”

She tilted her head. “Like the wrong way?”

“What?”

“What?” she asked, tilting her head to the other side.

I let out a deep sigh. “Is breakfast ready?”

“Well, of course! Nicco is never late.”

“Fantastic.”

Sienna had escorted me to a pavilion in the backyard, a white pavilion with pink roses growing all around it, even on top. I had to give it to Jetty, the garden looked amazing. Jetty however…

“And you have no idea how crispy Julie looked yesterday,” Jetty said, talking to some bushes with yellow flowers. “I know! That girl is such a mess. But we love her.”

He thankfully seemed oblivious to my presence, or chose to ignore me. Whatever, it suited me just fine. The pancakes that Nicco had made for me were divine. I stopped chewing.

“You smell absolutely divine.”

Jacob’s words flooded my mind and once again I found myself hardening. There had to be some sort of magic at play here and I was done being played with. It was one thing to kill me, or feed from me, but playing with my mind like this? Not cool!

“And don’t even get me started on Cherise!” Jetty chatted, watering some red roses now. “She fucking tore my pants up! I know!”

What the fuck was my life?

“Are you done yet?” Sienna asked, startling the shit out of me.

“Where the fuck did you come from?!” I demanded, clutching my heart.

“From my mother,” she answered, looking serious.

“That wasn’t—” I sighed. “You know, never mind.”

“Okay. So, are you done eating?”
