The door slammed open, making us startle. “What the actual fuck?!” Jacob exclaimed.
“What Jacob said,” Harland said, standing next to an equally furious looking Jacob.
“So, you never really wanted Harland and me, you just played around with us until you could seduce Alexander? Is that it?!” Jacob demanded, shaking with anger.
Alexander and I sat up on the couch, knowing we had to face them and all their feelings on this.
Harland stepped closer, “We tried to figure out how to share you. We were willing to fight for you, Colin.” Damn, his sadness was so evident it hurt.
Alexander sighed, pulling me closer to his side, like he needed to show his claim on me. “More sacrifices will come. You will both find your human soon.”
Jacob’s eyes flashed as he grabbed a small plant from the floor, hurtling it at the nearest wall. “I do not want another human! I want Colin!”
“Same!” Harland agreed. “No one else.”
It was now or never. I whispered, because I simply couldn’t say it any louder than that. “There won’t be more sacrifices.”
They all froze, staring at me.
“What?” Alexander asked, voice just above a whisper.
I sighed, bracing myself. “I am the last one. My sister should’ve been the sacrifice but she died. I had to take her place.”
Alexander’s eyes widened, “you do not have more siblings?”
I shook my head, feeling his sadness mirror my own, our bond just one huge place of hurt. It happened then. Alexander’s eyes grew misty, and tears trailed down his cheeks as he looked at his former lovers. “I had no idea. I am so sorry.”
Jacob fell to his knees, sobbing. Harland did the same, holding on to Jacob as their grief took over.
Jacob then looked straight at Alexander. “Well, you broke your last promise to me after all.” I could feel Alexander’s heart break as he heard those words. It was torture.
Harland then whispered, his voice so broken it hurt us all. “There is no one left to save us.”
“I will find a way,” I vowed. “I might not be a witch like Gretha was, but I’m still of her blood.”
Alexander shivered at that.
“Oh, I forgot you’d been betrothed to her,” I said, grimacing. “That’s sort of weird, not gonna lie.”
He smiled softly at that, stroking my cheek. “I was forced to marry her, but trust me, we had never even touched. I had planned on escaping with Jacob, faking our deaths and starting over someplace else. She just happened to catch us before we could make our escape.”
I felt relieved hearing that. Smiling, I kissed his lips, needing the comfort of being close to my vampire.
Both Jacob and Harland growled, eyes flashing.
Alexander growled back, sounding dangerous.
“Come,” Harland said, taking Jacob’s hand. “Colin has made his choice.”
Jacob’s sorrow-filled eyes broke both Alexander and me as we watched them leave.
“How do we fix this?” I asked once we were alone.
Alexander held me closer to him, breathing in my scent. “I do not know, my precious. But I fear there is nothing to be done.”
“But you love them!” I protested.
He smiled then. “I do, but I am a selfish bastard. I wanted you more, so I claimed you. I cannot have you all, even if my heart wished for it.”
