Chapter Eight

She changed her mind. She wasn’t in love with him. She totally took it back. There wasn’t a chance in hell she could have ever possibly been remotely attracted to him! The damn man got up without an alarm clock, and he actually was humming at the butt crack of dawn. Yep, he had to die, and she needed her head examined.

“Brenna, honey, what would you like for breakfast?”

“Your death?” she muttered into the mattress, as she pulled the pillow over her head. Damn it, it was Cooper’s pillow and it smelled like him. She took a deep breath, and felt her nipples harden. God, who wanted breakfast? She wanted to eat Cooper Laughlin with a spoon!

“Brenna? Did you hear me?”

Okay, now she remembered, she wanted him to die. Except for his penis. His penis should live.

She felt him start to tug the comforter off her body, and she rolled over. “Cooper, get the hell out of the bedroom! I’m not talking to you until I’ve had some caffeine.”

“You don’t think I’m stupid do you?” He held out a mug that smelled delicious.

“What’s this?”

“I know it isn’t a Caramel Mocha Frappuccino, but come on, that’s basically a milkshake for breakfast. This is a mocha latte. I was pretty sure that you’d like it. It has caramel sauce in it.”

Brenna took a sip. Flavor exploded across her tongue. “This is heavenly.”

She looked up at him and grinned. He wasn’t looking at her face. She looked down at her exposed breasts and blushed.

“You can still blush after last night?” he asked.

She pulled up the comforter with her left hand, not letting go of her mug with her right. “What are you doing humming this morning?”

“Are you fucking kidding me? This is a fantastic morning. You’re lucky I’m not singing show tunes.”

Brenna felt her face getting even hotter. He plucked the mug from her hands, put it on the nightstand, then plopped down beside her on the bed, and pulled her into his arms. “I think I love that you’re blushing. As long as you’re not regretting making love last night.” He nuzzled the side of her neck. “You’re not, are you? Regretting making love that is.”

Brenna arched into his caress. “No. God, no. Making love was wonderful,” she panted.

“Then what?”

“Just this.” She tipped her head downwards.

He looked down. “Your breasts? Seriously?” He tugged on the comforter, but she had a death grip on it. He pried it loose. “My God, I know that goddess is no longer a word on the table, but how about swimsuit model?” he grinned at her.

“You are such a goofball.”

“You’d definitely make the cover of Sports Illustrated.” He watched as the blush started on her chest, up her neck to her cheeks. “You’re gorgeous, Brenna Wells.” He kissed the tip of her nose.

“Oh shut up and give me back my coffee. What are my breakfast menu choices?”

He handed back her mug. “Eggs, any way you like them as long as it’s scrambled, and toast.”

“In that case I’ll have scrambled eggs and toast please.”

He bounded off the bed and she admired his ass in his slacks. What was it about a man in slacks? She sat there sipping her coffee as he left to go into the kitchen. She thought about last night, and what he’d shared about his fears. Brenna was still worried about his ability to truly commit. She bled for the boy that Cooper had been, and she understood how deep that scar went. It was something that she was going to have to help him work through, if they were going to survive as a couple.

“Okay, sweetheart, let’s discuss today’s agenda.”

Brenna raised her eyebrow as she chewed her rubbery eggs.

“First I drop you off at your internship job. I walk you up to your floor.”
