I laugh and try to ignore the way that James is still watchingme.
“Lennon thought it would be cool to show Wyatt something special about the area,” Haylee says. “He’s never been to California. Maybe go to the beach? Or one of the theme parks? He said something aboutDisneyland—”
Dylan, who’s been pouting since Layla teased him about Reed, suddenly sits up straight. “Disneyland?” he asks, eyes wide. “I’min.”
“How old are you?” James asks him, shaking hishead.
“Hey,” he shoots back. “Disneyland is cool, okay? I refuse to be shamed forthis.”
Lance smirks at me. “You’re with Dylan on this one, aren’t you? Didn’t you tell me one of the reasons you dropped out was to have more time forDisneyland?’
I snort. “Yes, that’s the biggest reasonactually.”
“Hilarious, Minnie,” James says, not nearly asamused.
“Well, it sounds like we’re on board?” Haylee says. “I’ll tell Cash to plan onit.”
“We are notallon board,” Laylasays.
“Oh, come on, Layla,” Dylan says. “If it’s going to be a whole band activity you can’t skipit.”
“Yeah,” Lance agrees. “We’ll probably be bonding andshit.”
“I am adequately bonded to all of you,” she says, smiling sweetly. “In fact, I think I’m going to bid you farewell and see if I can’t find me a hot waiter to do a little bonding with.” She waggles her eyebrows. “If you know what Imean.”
“We always know what you mean,” Lancemutters.
“Boo!” Dylan calls after her as she slips from thebooth.
“She has a point,” James says. “I think I’ll sit this oneout.”
“Don’t be such a spoilsport,” I tell him. “It will befun.”
“Minnie, I know you want to go and meet yournamesake—”
“Mynamesake?”
“The mouse you’re named after,” he teases. “Doesn’t she live atDisneyland?”
“Very funny,” Imutter.
“I’m sure you’ll have fun, Min,” he continues. “But I thinkI’m—”
“Stop it,” Lance suddenly snaps. I look over at him to see that he’s glaring at my brother across thetable.
“Stopwhat?”
“Stop calling herMinnie.”
“What?”
“She’s asked you to stop,” Lance says and he sounds pissed off. “She’s asked you a bunch of times. Why the fuck can’t you listen toher?”
James scowls at him. “I don’t think I need you telling me how to deal with mysister.”
“Well you don’t listen toher,” Lance says. “Even though she’s a grown woman. What the hell is your problem? Why is it so hard to call herWilla?”
Dylan is watching them, wide-eyed, his head snapping back and forth between the two like someone watching a tennis match. I want to say something, to stop them, but my throat has gone completelydry.
