“The best man could have done a better job,” Alex says, eyes flashing with mischief, “but otherwise it was pretty good.”

Wyatt—the best man in question—tweaks her waist and she laughs.

“I was about to say Eva’s dress was the best part of the whole deal,” he tells her. “But now I’m not so eager to pay you compliments.”

Bodhi must note my confused expression. “Everly and Alex designed the dress,” he says, voice filled with pride as he looks over at Everly.

I gape at them. “Seriously?”

Everly doesn’t even attempt to look modest. “We outdid ourselves with this one.”

I never in a million years would have guessed that dress came from a home sewing machine. It looked like it belonged on a top runway. “Holy crap. I assumed that was from some exclusive designer.”

They all laugh. “Well, I wouldn’t call us exclusive,” Alex says.

“Yet,” Wyatt cuts in. “FEA’s profits grew two hundred per cent in the last six months.”

The pieces fall into place. “You guys own FEA Threads?” Alex nods, looking a little shy. “I have like, three of your dresses!” I hold out my wrist just as River approaches with our drinks. “This is from your store.”

Everly claps her hands. “I knew you had good taste!”

“You didn’t know about the fashion line?” River asks, handing me a glass. He grins. “They had a reality show about it this summer.”

Now I feel embarrassed. “I, uh, don’t really watch reality TV,” I tell the girls lamely.

But Alex only laughs. “You didn’t miss much.”

“Only these two making out in secret for months,” Bodhi says gleefully, pointing at Alex and Wyatt. “Huge scandal. It wasawesome.”

I take a drink without looking at my glass and am pleasantly surprised when bubbles hit my tongue, immediately followed by the sweet explosion of raspberries. It’s the same kind of drink he made me at Ruby’s after our doctor’s appointment. I look up at River in surprise. “You made this?”

He shrugs. “I talked to the bar staff last night. Asked them to put Italian Sodas on the menu.” He takes a step closer, lowering his voice. “So you’ve been to the Threads store, huh?”

“Yeah.” I hold out my hand to show him the bracelet. “I have a couple dresses, too.” I narrow my eyes as a smirk spreads across his face. “What?”

He shrugs. “Just thinking. You and I were at the same music festival seven years ago. I just happened to go to June’s that night you were working. You went to my cousin’s store without knowing who they were. Sounds an awful lot like—”

“Don’t say it,” I cut in with a roll of my eyes.

His smirk only grows. “Fate.”

“I don’t believe in fate, River.”

“Some people don’t believe in the moon landing,” he says. “Doesn’t mean there aren’t human footprints up there.”

A harried looking woman with a clipboard approaches our group. “Sorry to interrupt,” she says, looking at her notes. “I need River, Everly, Alex, and Wyatt for pictures.”

Bodhi grins at me. “Guess that just leaves us non-Ransomes,” he says. “You want to go over and watch, or you want to dance?”

I look around the cocktail area. There’s a band playing in the corner, but it’s background music, not dancing stuff. “There’s not really a dance floor,” I point out.

Bodhi scoffs. “Babe, I don’t need a dance floor.”

“Bodhi is a one-man party,” River says, laughing. But then he takes my arm. “You guys should come over with us. I’m sure Eva and Will are gonna want you in some of the pictures.”

I try to pull my arm back as we head over to the area where most of the family is congregating against the tree line. “They’re not going to want me in the pictures,” I whisper to him. “They hardly even know me.”

“ButIknow you,” he says simply. “And I want you in the pictures.”
