He’s still grinning, enjoying this way too much. “Nah. Bodhi would have been much worse than this. He’d insist on having a sleepover and he’d try to get you to play Truth or Dare or something.”
I laugh. “That sounds more fun than this.”
“Okay,” Eva says loudly, pushing on Will’s arm to get him to move. “We’re all going to give Rose a minute. Let’s go. Move along.” She corrals everyone back towards the living room and I could kiss her feet, I’m so thankful. My cousin really lucked out with her. No wonder he wants to propose.
As soon as we have some space, I drag Leo to my room. “You can stop laughing anytime.”
He spins me around, pulling me into his chest, hands coming to rest on my lower back. “You’re just so cute when you’re annoyed. You get this little divot between your eyebrows, and your skin gets all blotchy.”
“You should watch yourself,” I warn. “Pretty sure I warned you not to call me cute after the hot tub.”
His smirk grows. “You gonna attempt to castrate me, Rosie?”
I groan, ducking my head into his chest. “Do not call me that.”
“Why?” I can hear the laughter in his voice. “It’s cute.”
I smack his chest. “Stop calling me cute!”
He only laughs some more so I rise up on my tiptoes and kiss him to shut him up. “Mmm,” he murmurs against my lips. “You know, if this is how you respond to my teasing, I’m going to have to do it a lot more.”
Before I can answer, someone clears their throat in my doorway. River. Standing there glaring at us. I start to pull away from Leo but he holds me tight, clearly not intimidated by my brother.
“Just wanted to make sure you don’t need any help,” he practically growls.
I close my eyes. “Should have closed the door,” Leo murmurs in my ear.
“I’ll be right out, Riv,” I say as calmly as I can, glaring at him until he turns to leave.
“I’m sorry,” I tell Leo, suddenly more embarrassed than annoyed. “I wish I could tell you that they aren’t always like this, but they pretty much are. Nosy and overprotective and incredibly obnoxious.”
“I get it.” He kisses my forehead. “Why don’t I stay in here for a minute? I should let Bodhi know where I am. You can go out and talk to them.”
“Sure, send me out to the wolves by myself,” I mutter.
He pulls me closer, hands drifting down to the top of my ass. “Or we could both just stay in here. Barricade the door. Pretend we’re still in the mountains.”
As heavenly as that sounds, I know I need to get this over with. It will be a lot easier to deal with my family’s third degree without Leo standing next to me.
So I leave him to make his phone call and go out to face the music. But first, I need a beer.
I haven’t even closed the fridge door before Will joins me in the kitchen. “What the hell, Rose?”
I cross my arms. “Any chance you can be cool about this? I expected the big brother routine from Fox and Riv, but I didn’t think you would baby me.”
He looks offended. “When have I ever babied you?”
I gesture at his angry face and defensive posture. “What do you call this?”
“That guyhurtyou, Rose. And now you show up with him, holding hands? What, are you dating now?”
“We haven’t put a label on it. It’s very new.”
His eyes narrow. “So you have no idea if he’s going to go radio silent on you again.”
I bristle. “Actually, Will, he had a really damn good reason for what happened.”
His eyebrows go up. “This should be good. What excuse could he possibly have for being a dick to you?”
