Graham’s smile widened and he glanced over his shoulder. “I have no complaints.”
Tanner followed his gaze to see Thad on the other side of the room, talking to Connor.
“I’d be happy to watch sometime,” Tanner said with a cheeky wink. “If you two were ever up for that.”
“Nope,” Graham said with an unamused look. “Not a chance.”
“Had to ask,” Tanner admitted.
Graham laughed. “Yeah. I know. Okay, I’ve gotta see Andy about my knee. Catch you later.”
“Bye S’mores,” Tanner said, already focused on his phone again.
There was a message from Leif that said,Taking off now. Talk later.
Annoyed, Tanner checked social media, sent a couple of messages to friends, responded to a few conversations he was having with people he’d hooked up with in the past or had been thinking about hooking up with in the future.
But when one of them asked if he was up for anything tonight, he hesitated.
Was he? Honestly, probably not. Between last night, this morning, and the workouts and practice they were about to have, he probablywouldbe gassed AF by tonight.
That reminded him, he should hydrate. He got up and grabbed a blue sports drink.
He drank about a third of it, then responded to the person who’d messaged him.Not 2night. Maybe anthr time?
But Tanner wasn’t sure why he didn’t feel that excited about them anymore. They were super hot. Non-binary and vers and they’d had fun flirting before. But Tanner’s mind kept wandering back to the sounds Leif made in the shower this morning.
And the … well, whatever it was Leif had been feeling after breakfast. Tanner wasn’t really sure what that was about. He’d seemed super intense—which wasn’t exactly rare for Leif or anything, he wasalwayskind of intense—and Tanner wouldn’t even say it wasbadintense. Just … kinda …
Well, Tanner wasn’t sure what.
All he knew was that Leif had acted like he didn’t want to let go of Tanner, or something. And honestly, Tanner hadn’t wanted to let go either. It had been a huge bummer to realize that it would be a while before they saw each other again.
It shouldn’t matter. They’d hardly seen each other before this, right? But for some reason, it bothered him this time.
“There you are! We were starting to get worried.”
Tanner looked up to see Rafe frowning down at him.
“You were looking for me?” Tanner glanced at his phone to be sure he hadn’t missed a message, but no, there was nothing in the Roomies chat he had with Rafe and Mickey.
“Well yeah, you didn’t come home last night or this morning.”
Tanner stared at him. “Itoldyou guys I was staying over with someone.”
“Yeah, but you didn’t say you weren’t going to be home at all before practice.”
Tanner smacked his forehead. “Shit. I meant to. I, uh, got here early actually.”
“Early?” Mickey walked up, looking pissed. “We were worried you’d been murdered!”
Tanner sighed. Seriously, he lived with a couple of old people. Like living with Mom and Jeff. No, worse, because Mom and Jeff were actuallymorechill than Rafe and Mickey.
“I’mfine,” Tanner said with a laugh.
He tried to listen while Mickey lectured him and Rafe nodded like a disappointed parent, but his mind wandered again and when it finally returned, they were both gone. Whoops. Hopefully he hadn’t made thingsworse.
Tanner went back to his phone but when he saw Leif hadn’t said anything else, he sent,I’m booooooooored. Entertain me.They had Wi-Fi on the plane. He knew they did.
