That explained why there was a hodgepodge of choices, such as pineapple and bacon pizza with barbecue sauce instead of marinara, chicken fried rice, and baked spaghetti. He remembered.

“I don’t do that too much anymore. Gas costs too much to drive all over town getting food from multiple restaurants. It’s easier to cook all the different things I want, but Jord . . . Umm, so yeah. Everything is delicious. My compliments to the chef.”

I stuffed a spoonful of chicken fried rice into my mouth, then looked down at my food, praying Major didn’t catch my slipup. I could feel him staring at me, so I glanced up and caught his narrowed eyes.

“You got a man in Onyx City, Lovie?”

“Huh?”

“You heard me, but I’ll ask you again. Do you have a man?”

I had no idea why his question made me nervous. Jordan and I had broken up, albeit yesterday, but when it happened doesn’t matter. Regardless, I didn’t owe Major a damn thing. If I did have a man, it was none of his business.

“No. I don’t have a man.”

“What were you about to say?”

“Nothing.”

“We lying to each other now?” he questioned.

I frowned, widening my eyes because this nigga had the audacity to question me about lying.

“Apparently, one of us hasbeenlying and is the reason we haven’t spoken to or seen each other in six years.”

“I didn’t lie to you.”

“What do you call it?”

“Nobody lied to you, Lovie. The whole reason I stopped talking to your ass was because I couldn’t lie to you. You ain’t gotta tell me his name, just let me know if you still dealing with the nigga.”

“I told you I don’t have a man, and since we’re on the topic, do you have a woman?”

“No. The last relationship I was in was with you.”

“Let me be more specific. Are you fucking anybody?”

“Only you.”

I rolled my eyes.

“We aren’t fucking.”

“Not yet.”

“Major, this is a serious question.”

“No, Lovie, I’m not fucking nobody. I haven’t had sex with anybody in at least a month.”

“A month? You act like that’s a long time.”

“It may have been longer than that, but a month is plenty long. What about you?”

“What about me?”

“When was the last time you had sex?”

Oh shit!I should’ve kept my mouth shut because he’d turned the tables on me. At no point in this conversation had I anticipated him asking me about my last sexual encounter.
