I could lie and say no, but if he plans on going, he might see me there and know I lied. But if I say yes, he’s going to ask with who. I could say I have a date, but again if he goes and sees me with just my best friend, Sienna, and her new Alpha, James, he’d know I was lying.
So, I stick with something safe. “Not sure yet.” I tell him, grabbing my coat and slipping it on before sliding my bag strap over my shoulder.
“If you're not going with anyone, I was wondering if maybe we could go together.” And there we go.
I do my best to give him a bright smile. “You're a nice guy, Ed. And I appreciate your interest, but like I’ve said before, I don’t date colleagues.”
“I know you’ve said that before, but you’ve never given me a reason why. It’s not against policy.” His brows furrow, pushing the subject.
“It’s against my own policy.” I cross my arms over my chest, just wanting this to be done with. I hate confrontation and I don’t want to cause issues with the people I work with. But I’m not going to let that scare me into agreeing to go on a date with him. “It’s my way of protecting myself. Because if things get messy, it could cause drama at school and I just want everyone to get along.” I smile. “I hope you understand.”
“But we could be perfect together. How do you know this will end badly if you don’t even give me a chance.”
Ed isn’t a bad looking guy, he just isn’t my type. And this whole pushing me when I’ve turned him down more than once is a major turn off.
“I gotta get going. I’m meeting my friend for drinks after work.”
“Drinks?” his eyes light up. “I could use a drink. Can I come?”
Is this man for real?
“No, Ed.” I smile, stepping around him. He follows me out as I lock up my classroom.
“Why not?” he presses as I walk down the hallway.
“Because I have plans with my friend,” I tell him, starting to get pissed off. Why can’t people just take a hint?
“I don’t mind hanging out with your friend.”
“I’m sure her Alpha would,” I snap back.
“Gia, why are you being like this.” He grabs my arm, pulling me to a stop. I swing wide eyes up at him. Is he fucking touching me?
“Let go of me,” I say in a low answering tone.
He lets go, taking a step back. “I wasn’t going to hurt you.”
“Yeah?” I say, glaring at him. “Sure didn’t seem like that. I was trying to be nice, but I need you to understand nothing will ever happen between us. So, please stop asking me out.”
His eyes grow dark, nostrils flaring.
“Is it because I’m older than you?”
“What?” His question takes me off guard.
“You like them younger don’t you?” he spits.
“What are you talking about?”
“Alphas. You like the attention all the Alpha students give you. That's why you won’t go out with me, because it could lead to something more and you wouldn't be available for them.”
“Oh, you’ve got to be fucking kidding me.” I shake my head. “You’re fucking crazy. And you better watch yourself. You know the school policy. So unless you want to get fired, I’d shut your mouth. Now. I’m not fucking any of my students, I don’t want them in any kind of way. Just like I don’t want you. Take the rejection, Ed. A bruised ego is better than being unemployed," I snap before throwing open the door and storming out.
Once I’m in my car, I lock the door and scream.
This is why I don’t date anymore. I’ve had nothing but a string of bad luck.
Why can’t I just find a normal Alpha or two. Grown men who can respect an Omega, treat them right, not expect things just because of our designations.
