“Are you worried?” Shelah rubs my upper back in a comforting pattern.
“I just don’t know how they’re going to react, honestly. Or if they’ll be disappointed in me.” I lift my head up, and my eyes lock onto hers as I bite my bottom lip.
“Hmm, I bet they’ll take it just fine. But you won’t know unless you talk to them. The longer you keep this information from them, the more it’ll tear you up inside.”
I slowly nod. “You’re right. Maybe I’ll do it on our next weekly call.”
“You’ve got this, babe!”
“Thank you.Youare my favorite customer, in case I haven’t told you that lately.”
“I always love to hear it.” She laughs around her glass.
“Hey, KC!” Taylor hollers to me from the other side of the bar.
“Hey, girl. What’s up?”
“There’s a box with your name on it in the break room.”
“Oh shit. Yeah, Val had mentioned there was a delivery I missed. Thank you!”
“No problem.”
“Alright, enjoy your drink, Shelah. I’ll see you next time. I might have to tell Jared to make an appearance so you two can officially meet.”
Shelah raises her drink. “Deal.”
“Make sure she gets the family discount,” I tell the bartender. She nods with a wink.
Damn. I can’t believe I forgot about that package. Wonder what it could be? When I walk into the break room, there’s a medium-size brown box on the table in the middle of the room. No information is listed on the box. I pick it up, slightly giving it a shake. I grab a knife from a drawer and slice through the tape on the lid. Pulling it open, I look inside the dark box.
It looks like flowers. Reaching in, I pull out a small bouquet of sunflowers, wilted and dead. A piece of paper falls to the ground. Bending over, I grasp it with my fingertips and unfold it to read it.
These reminded me of you.
Did Jared send me flowers?
CHAPTER 61
Jared
My schedule has been crazy this week in preparation for the fight out of town. It’s a big money maker, not just for me, but for the whole team. Everyone has been training hard and eating right. But I miss Kailey. Now that I’ve tasted her again, I want her all the time. Unfortunately, her schedule has been pretty busy too.
That’s why I invited her over to Beau’s place tonight. He told me I could have the place to myself, and didn’t give me any details on where he’d be going. I don’t think he realizes that people do know about him and Ajani. Especially when they shared a room at Skyler’s house. Oh well, that’s his issue to deal with. Who am I to judge? When you know, you know.
A soft knock comes from the front door. I rush over and open it fast, before Kailey can continue to knock.
“Hello, Dimples.” Kailey leaps into my arms and smashes her lips against mine. Biting my bottom lip, she moans, “I’ve missed you.”
I carry her inside and close the door with my foot. I unlatch from her lips and lean my forehead against hers. “I’ve missed you more.”
“Not possible.” She shakes her head.
“Oh, it is. I just got home from working out and didn’t get to shower yet. Do you want to order food? You’re gonna need lots of carbs for what I plan to do to you all night.” I lower her to the ground and slap her ass.
“Fuck, yes.”
“What sounds good? I’ll eat whatever you order. My wallet’s on the counter. Have at it.” I kiss her lips fast and turn to head to the shower. I stop before I get too far away from her. “Did you ever find out who sent those flowers?”
