I held Nitochi’s arms tighter. “It’s alright,” I reassured him. “I’m used to injections. I’ve had to have them pretty much every month since the day I was born back on my planet.”
Nitochi let out a low growl but made no move to stop the man when he came closer to my arm. “Okay. Let'stake your tension first. We’ll leave you alone soon.”
Not even one hour later, all of them were gone. I was seated at the floor table, a cup of water between my hands, as both Baelor and Nitochi were cooking something in the kitchen.
“Aren’t you tired?” I asked Baelor. He’d been out most of the day. Not to mention he probably hadn’t slept at all the night Nitochi rescued me.
“I should be able to survive the dinner at our parents' nest,” he said with a smile. “But after that, I will definitely crumble in bed.”
“Is it close by?” I wondered.
Baelor winced. “Not really. We will all stay there for a few days.”
A few days?But… “At your…parents’?”
Nitochi arched a brow at me. “Are you still afraid that we will eat you?”
Blood rushed to my cheeks. Will I ever get used to his voice?
“No!” I blurted. “I just—” My eyes strayed to Baelor, stretching his neck as he crouched over the large pan, moving the sizzling meat around. “I thought that, now that I have my translator updated and everything, we would get to spend time together.” I paused. Both of them had stopped what they were doing tostare at me. My throat bobbed. “You know…Just the three of us.”
They exchanged a silent look. Nitochi’s lips curled up in a smile as he looked away, shaking his head.
“We will,” Baelor said, seriously. “We will notsleepin their nest. They probably already prepared a free cave for us.Far away from theirs.”
My heated face was now burning.Oh.I couldn’t help but anxiously scratch at my arms, the itchy fabric grating on my nerves. Nitochi caught the motion.
“Are those standard human clothes?” he asked, motioning to the—let’s face it,ugly—hospital shirt and pants.
“Certainly not,” I said, shaking my head vehemently. “I can’t wait to get out of these and into something else.”Or not.Naked was fine too. “I don’t knowwhenthey’ll bring me normal clothes, though.”
They both looked relieved. It seemed they didn’t like this outfit more than I did. “Do not worry about it,” Baelor said. “Our mother took her duties very seriously.”
His words piqued my interest. “Duties?”
“She has been collecting clothes for you forweeks,” Nitochi said with a chuckle before lifting playful eyes to me. “To be fair, she still sees us as savage teenagers.”
Baelor rolled his eyes. “She does. She was worried we would not dress you at all and leave you…naked. But maybe she has a point…”
The pointed stare he gave both me and Nitochi said it all. My dark knight only laughed, bumpinghis shoulders against his. “Let’s talk about it again in a few days, yes?”
“Anyway,” Baelor said, not taking the bait. “The males’ mother usually provides the female of her sons her…maritalclothes.”
Marital? “But we aren’t—”
“The ceremony did not happen yet, we know,” Baelor continued, reading my confusion. “She is sad about this and does not want you to be forced to stay naked and inside until it does.”
My eyes strayed to their naked chests. They wore pants, but that seemed to be it. Maybe their wings didn’t allow them to cover up completely.
Not that I had any complaints…
Baelor grunted and turned around.
Nitochi’s eyes didn’t leave mine as he said, “We do not have the time for lust, habanshi.”Why did it not translate?“Stop looking at us like this or we will not make it in time.”
Shit.
I guess we were going to visit their parents then…
