“You can’t—”

Before she couldfinish saying he couldn’t go after them alone, he spun away fromher and moved like a flash of lightning through the trees. Except,he was more lethal than lightning could ever be.

CHAPTER 34

She didn’t blinkbefore he was on them. Grasping the first one by the throat, helifted the Savage off the ground and smashed it into a tree. Sheswore it dented the trunk.

The second Savage, the woman, launched itself at Saber. He ducked the attack anddropped his shoulder to catch her in the chest.

He shoved into itas he rose and flipped the Savage over his back. The creaturegrunted when it hit the ground.

Releasing thefirst Savage, Saber went to one knee and plunged his stake throughthe second creature’s heart. When it started to wail, he slammedhis hand over its mouth and released the stake to snap its neck. Its screams abruptly silenced.

He pulled hisstake free and turned toward the one sliding down the tree. Beforeits feet hit the ground, he plunged the stake into its heart.Baring its teeth, the Savage met his eyes as he placed his handover its mouth and twisted deeper.

“You should haveknown better than to fuck with me,” he snarled.

The Savage clawedat his hand as its feet kicking against the tree slowed andstopped. Saber savored the life still dimly glinting in its eyes asits hands fell away from his.

Like he had somany times over the years, Saber watched that life fade beforegoing out. Knowinghewas the last thing this creature sawcaused him to smile, and after another heartbeat, he released theSavage.

As its body sliddown the tree trunk, Saber yanked his stake free. He admired theblood glinting on the end of the wooden weapon before kicking asidesome leaves and dirt.

He released hisstake into the small hole his boot created before kicking it backover again. The Savage’s tainted blood wouldn’t enter his jacketpocket.

Caro was stilltrying to process what she’d seen as she stared at the deadSavages. It all happenedsofast. How did he movethatfast?

The man madeblinking seem time-consuming. He’d destroyed them faster than shecould breathe, and he didn’t have so much as a bead of sweat on hisforehead.

The worst thingwas, she’d watched him destroy two Savages in less than fiveseconds, and instead of being terrified, she was a little disturbedby how much it excited her. She should have screamed as she fledthis place; instead, he was super sexy to watch.

She never wouldhave believed watching someone kill anything couldeverbehot, but Saber doing it was.

Grief, stress, and exhaustion have finally caused me to completely lose mymind.

Or maybe she’dalways been a little twisted, and he was bringing out that darkerside of her. She may have lost her mind, but she wouldn’t deny itwas a possibility.

All the men she’dbeen with had bored her to tears. Yeah, she’d gotten off with someof them, but she was happy to walk away afterward.

Not with him, though. She’d watched him murder these two and listened to himadmit to killing for fun, and she was still attracted to him. However, she wasn’t about to get into anything with this ex-Savage,killing machine.

She was lostwithout her parents, grieving, beyond tired, and probably a wholelot crazy, but she wasn’t outrightinsane. She had a strongsurvival instinct, and this man screamed death.

“What do we doabout the bodies?” she asked.

“We’ll bury themunder some debris,” Saber replied. “That’s the best we can do rightnow. We have to take care of them and get out of here. I’m surethey’ve already called for backup; it won’t be long before itarrives, and we can’t be here when it does.”

When she bent tograb the legs of one of the bodies, Saber seized her wrist. Hedidn’t want her touching them and getting more of theirfilthon her. They’d already tainted and ruined her life toomuch already.

“I’ll do it,” hesaid.

“I can help.”

“I’d prefer if youdidn’t touch them.”

“It’s too late forthat. I still have the blood from the one in the arcade under mynails.”

“You don’t need tohave any more of their blood on you.Iwilldothis.”
