“Who’s being the creeper now, Monster?” She thrust out a hip, one slender eyebrow arching. And I bit back a laugh. I wasn't sorry that I had been caught staring at her. I liked looking at her and she liked it as well. Her already dark eyes always got darker. Bottomless pits.
If I wasn't careful those eyes would suck out what was left of my soul. I could already feel it happening. I had attempted to ruin her by giving those pictures to Gio, but she was the one who had ruined me. Just by looking at me with those big dark eyes.
“You're not asleep,” I reminded her with a grin, turning my full attention to her as she slipped on a pair of high heeled boots and bent to zip them up. The leather encased her up to the knee, clinging to her shapely calves and making my mouth water. “And I'm not ashamed of looking at you. I like what I see, especially when you are bent over like that.”
She threw me a look over her shoulder. “You do, huh?”
Unapologetically, I nodded. “Yeah, I like those boots as well. I think you should keep them on later.”
“Later?”
“Yeah,” I added with a wink, “when you wrap your legs around my neck.”
Her laughter joined in with mine, filling the room. It was a moment full of longing but an easy-going moment at the same time. Almost like we were a real couple and that all of this wasn't just make believe so she could get her hands on a bunch of money.
“Are we interrupting?” Havoc’s old lady Darcie poked her head around the door. Her eyes scanned the room quickly before landing on us. “Oh good, you're both dressed. Havoc wasn't sure you would be.” She giggled playfully, pushing the door open wide.
I cursed myself for not locking it. “We wouldn’t be if your man hadn't…” I flashed Angela a grin of my own, surprised to see a blush heating her cheeks. What was up with that? My angel didn't blush, and yet she seemed genuinely embarrassed by my words.
“You need to keep Havoc more occupied, Darcie. I don’t know why but he seems to enjoy ruining my sex life. Maybe if he had one of his own…” I didn't finish, choosing instead to laugh at her outraged face.
“Our sex life is just grand thank you, Monster.” Her eyes narrowed as she looked around the room. Her face was furious even though her eyes were shining with laughter. “If I had something handy I would throw it at your head.”
Puffing out my chest I tried to look outraged. “Did you hear that, Angel? Darcie wants to throw something at my head. Mine.” I filled my voice with mock outrage.
Across the room, Angela shrugged, her face full of mischief as she turned from Darcie to me. “Let's be honest, you deserve it.”
I tried to act like I was offended and just ended up laughing. “You ladies are probably right. If I hadn’t done something that deserves a shoe to my head then it's only a matter of time. Did Havoc ask you to come and collect us?”
For a second Darcie looked confused. “I'm not here for you,” she finally said. “I’m here for Angela. We are having a girly day shopping.”
“Shopping? I mean, I love shopping but I don’t really need anything right now.”
“Sure you do.” Darcie met my eyes, not looking at the woman she was talking to and the moment she spoke I realised why. “We need to start wedding shopping. And planning,” she added.
No wonder she had looked at me. She was gauging my reaction to the news that my faux wedding was still going ahead. and quicker than any of us had originally planned. Darcie was probably under strict instructions to watch for any sign that I was going to pull out of the deal.
I wasn't.
Not because of the deal though. But because of the dark-haired beauty who was chewing on her lip and looking uncharacteristically unsure of herself.
“That sounds fun.” Crossing the room to her, I wrapped Angela in my arms. “Are you going to be ok without me for a few hours, Angel? The girls will look after you and…”
“I'll be fine.” In my arms, Angela straightened and her mask slipped back into place. Gone was the uncertainty and longing. Cold bitchy Angela looked at me from beneath her curling lashes. “It will be nice to spend some time away from the clubhouse and do some retail therapy. You will be here when I get back in a few hours?”
“I'll be here,” I promised.
“So we can pick up where we left off?”
“I'll be here,” I repeated with a kiss. “I have to go and talk to Fang and Gio, but I'll be here when you get back. Here.” I dug into my pocket for my wallet. I knew she had money of her own but if she was going to be my woman I wanted her to have access to money as well. If I got locked up it would be her money after all.
“No need.” Darcie produced a slim black card out of nowhere, waving it around excitedly. “Today’s shopping trip is being financed by Gio.”
Opening my mouth to tell them how much I hated that idea, I shut it again with a snap. Yes, my pride was hurt, I was more than capable of paying for my own future wife. But all of this was Gio’s fault. He had started all of this. And he had deep pockets.
“Go fucking crazy ladies.”
