“Well she’s staying with Gemma, and as always Gem is wasted, so I am gonna drive them back. You want to make your move?”
Did I? Hell Yeah, I did. But not tonight. Now I knew where she was staying I had more time. “Nah I’ll leave it for tonight.” Pinching my lips together. “How come we never knew Gem had friends like that?”
For a moment, Gent frowned. “Gem doesn’t know her, she’s just putting her up for the night. Supposedly Cali…” his eyes glinted. “That’s her name by the way. Rolled into town to meet a biker, one that doesn’t exist.” He gave a low chuckle. “You could always give her a biker that does exist brother. But be quick about it.”
My eyebrow arched in question.
“Her bus leaves tomorrow.”
Chapter Four
Cali
Gemma was super lovely, but she sucked at being a hostess. If it hadn’t been for Gent, a name that made me smile. The same man who had been tattooing my ass we wouldn’t have gotten back to her tiny apartment. Or she would have tried to drive, and we would have ended up wrapped around a tree or in a ditch somewhere.
”Gem?” I said her name quietly from her half-open bedroom door. In answer, she turned, snoring softly as she rolled over.
It was useless. She wasn’t going to wake up, I had been trying on and off for the last half hour. Not that I could blame her. She was going to have one killer hangover when she finally opened her eyes. The girl could seriously put back shots.
She, couldn’t handle them, but she could put them back.
Still, I couldn’t wait, I didn’t want to miss my bus. I would just have to leave without a real thank you and goodbye.,
I had expected a lot of things coming here, but her kindness hadn’t been one of them. It was unexpectedly sweet. And I hated leaving just a note but what choice did I have?
I had a life and a job to get back to. One so far removed from all of this that I may as well live on a different planet. And I had to get back to it. This whole trip had been a bust.
I had taken several steps down the road before I heard my name called. At first, I thought it was my imagination. No one knew me here.
“Cali.”
I half turned, and that’s when I saw him. He was straddling a giant monster of a bike. I knew nothing about bikes, but even I had to admit it was beautiful.
“Or should I say hey Not Interested?” Pulling the bandana from around his nose and mouth, he grinned.
Recognition hit me. Truth. That’s what he had called himself. A strange name but not as strange as the fact that he was right here in front of me.
“Hi.” I wanted to ask him what he was doing here, but I was pretty sure I knew the answer. There was only one reason a man was outside a woman’s flat before nine am on a Saturday morning. He was obviously here to see Gem. Was he sleeping with her as well?
With everything I had seen in the last twenty-four hours, I wouldn’t put it passed them. Everyone seemed to have a really easy-going approach to who they slept with. Not that I could shame them, hadn’t I come here to hook up with some random dude?
“Gem is still asleep.” Hell, I didn’t know what to say to him.
“I’m not here to see her.” His brown eyes met mine, unwavering. “I’m here to see you.”
Me? I blinked at him in surprise.
. Why would he be here to see me?
“Me?” I asked dumbly, and that lazy smile of his grew deeper.
“Yeah, you. Heard you came here to meet someone?”
Embarrassment tinged my cheeks pink. “How did you…” shaking my head I shuffled my feet. “Gem..” she must have told someone, and it had got around.
Gossip seemed to spread even quicker here then it did back home.
“Yeah, well,” I gave another shrug. I really didn’t want to be having this conversation. The sooner I was on my way home, the better. “You live and learn, don’t you?”
