“Just open it; you won’t ever be able to guess what this is.” She rolls her eyes at me and smiles. I want to punish her for that bratty behavior, and she knows it. She loves to press my buttons. She loves being dominated.
“Fine.” She slowly opens the lid and is shocked by what she finds inside. “Lucian, are you asking me what I think you are asking me.”
She pulls out the little black onesie I picked out the week after she agreed to be my wife. I have kept it hidden all this time because I wanted to make sure she was fully healed, and it was something that she actually wanted. The onesie says, “Player 3 Has Entered the Game,” and has a video game controller on it. She looks up at me with tears in her eyes, but she is smiling.
“I wanted to make sure you were ready. I know we talked before about possibly having kids one day, but that was before we were even together. We were kids ourselves back then. But from the day I proposed, I knew I wanted a family with you. I want as many as you want to have. Little Luke’s and Leia’s running around if that’s what you want to name them. I just knew that from that day, I could see us having a family. So what do you say, Mi Amor?”
She sits there in silence for a moment, holding the onesie and looking it over. I’m starting to worry. Did I rush it? Has she been having second thoughts about kids? I’m panicking, looking at her face. A minute feels like an hour until she hugs the onesie to her chest and giggles.
“Well, I guess I can give you my surprise then.” She reaches into her carry-on bag and pulls out a bag with a pregnancy test. It’s positive.
“I’m going to be a dad?!” I drop to my knees in front of her and lay my head against her belly. Kissing where my child is growing inside her. I can’t help the tears soaking her dress.
“Yes, you are going to be a dad. I guess the shot isn’t 100% effective. I just found out this morning. Ash made me take it to make sure because I hadn’t felt good in the morning for the last two weeks. I thought it was just wedding nerves. She was bringing me mocktails all night so no one would suspect a thing. I wanted to wait until we were at the villa, but this works too.” She laughs, joining me in crying tears of joy.
“I can’t believe it; we are going to be parents,” I say, my head still resting on her stomach.
My life is officially complete.
