My evening just got even better.

I was planning to go to her place anyway, but having her show up here is even better.

Maybe the time apart gave her some clarity, too.

“Send her up,” I say with a smile, sitting on the edge of the sofa, facing the elevator doors.

When they open I’m greeted by a furious Sarah, stomping into my apartment.

She stops right in front of me, and before I can say anything, she begins.

“I can’t believe you, McGregor. You give me this whole “I want it all” speech, only to turn around and find another woman as soon as I show some insecurities aboutthis,” she starts pacing back and forth, and I’m completely confused.

Another woman?

What is she talking about?

“Are you really that desperate for sex? You couldn’t even wait 48 hours before finding someone else,” her anger is clear, and I still don’t understand.

I haven’t had sex with anyone since I met her.

Where is all of this coming from?

“Sarah, hold up—” I try to stop her, but she’s determined to let it all out.

“And don’t even get me started on the flowers! You send me the most beautiful bouquet, and then you go and sleep with another woman the same night!”

Her voice quivers when she talks about the flowers, and the vulnerability in her eyes breaks my heart.

Finally, it clicks.

Filippa, she thinks I’ve been with her.

I go to her and wrap my arms around her back, not letting her move out of my arms, even when she tries to break free.

“You’ve got your say, now you’re going to listen to me,” I tell her, leaving no room for discussion.

She narrows her eyes at me, but stops fighting my hold as I speak.

“First of all, you got it all wrong, and I’m actually a little pissed that you would think so low of me, but I’ll let you off the hook this time,” I tell her as I bring her closer to me, needing to have her as near as possible.

“Secondly, the woman I think you’re referring to is Fillipa, who is Noah’s sister. I met with her to plan his birthday party as she lives in the city we played in.”

The moment it clicks, her relief is clear as she sinks into my arms.

Then, the vulnerability creeps back into her eyes.

“But why did you go to the same hotel then?” She asks me, still not entirely confident about us, probably looking for her way out of this.

I can tell she’s struggling, wanting to run, but also wanting to stay.

“She was going to visit Noah, you know just as well as me that we all live in the same hotel when we’re on the road.”

I can tell she’s feeling bad about doubting me, hell, I might have to put her over my knee for ever thinking so low of me when I’m crazy about her, but first, I will work on earning her trust and making my intentions clear whenever I have the chance.

She relaxes more into my arms, her own arms going around my back, making me drag her as close as possible.

“And for the record, the only thing I’ve fucked ever since you turned up outside my hotel room is my hand, and every time, I’ve come to the thought of you.”
