She went for the burger and god that first bite was almost orgasmic. He must have done something to the food. Either way, she scarfed it down like it might be her last meal. For all she knew, it was. Finally finished, she wiped her face and hands with the supplied napkins.

“Thank you. Did you find your brother?”

“No.”

“I don’t suppose you’re letting me go then.”

“Smart woman.”

“Will Zolar not find me here?” Her worst fear was that god and the vengeance he might extract once he located her. She was his best asset, and he would not be pleased at losing her.

“Not likely. He never located Greydon when he lived here.”

“Where is this place, anyway?” She felt like she was in a cave and there was even a pool of deep blue water to prove she might be right.

He didn’t reply, instead he rose and grabbed her wrists and the rope. She kicked him.

“No! If I can’t escape, then why tie me up?”

“To make you suffer.”

Those were the last words she heard before she dozed off.

CHAPTER2

Zander had sent her to sleep and finished tying her back to the headboard, as he was in no mood to deal with her. This female ignited something inside him, and he chalked it up to the fact he’d been in Zolar’s prison for more years than he cared to count. The last female he had touched had been Lomara on her deathbed, and that had been hundreds of years ago. He also had not found Orien at the compound. Sure, he had located a few of their people being held and for that he was thankful, but not his brother, and he was trying not to lose hope.

Besides, even though there was no way for her to escape this room, he was not about to make her life easy. She had committed crimes against his people and for that, he would make her stay uncomfortable. There was also the fact she was hiding a very big secret. The question was, did she know she was hiding it, or was she completely oblivious? It was time for him to do some more digging and he was going to start with her past, since he knew little about her personal life. Opening a portal, he took himself topside and into the human world to a city called Boston, where the doctor had worked. It didn’t take him long to locate the Center for Genetic Studies, a large complex of buildings on several acres outside the city limits. As he stood in the darkness and surveyed the complex, he noted the security system and how many guards, as well as other workers, were inside. Since he had no idea where her lab was located, or even her office, he was going to have to slip in and wing it. The doctor, according to the news articles he had scrounged up, was well known in her field. She had been reported missing nearly two years ago by her fiancé, Jeff. It seemed both of her parents were deceased, and she had no siblings. There had been no one else to miss her other than her colleagues here at the lab.

Summoning his magic, he shrouded himself in a powerful cloak that would keep him from being detected by cameras and humans. The alarms he would have to deal with as he encountered them, since he still had a physical body to set them off. First thing he did was portal himself inside to the lobby since he could see through the large glass windows and knew what to expect. Once inside, he sensed only motion detectors and setting them off would only send security on a wild chase of something they couldn’t see. He had no issues with that.

His gaze caught a portrait of the doctor on the wall. For once she didn’t have her hair pulled back but had allowed it to fall in soft waves around her face. She wore a pink blouse and a dark jacket which suited her. He stared at the framed photo. Feelings he’d not had in a very long time came over him. Feelings he didn’t want to examine but it explained why his cock stirred every time he looked at the doctor. Even now, as he stared at her photo, he wondered what she would feel like beneath him.

Shaking his head, he tossed those thoughts out the door and reminded himself she had gotten herself tangled up with Zolar. In his mind, Sheila Matthis was no better than a killer, and for all he knew, she was one.

The front desk was empty so he headed for it at sonic speed, hoping it might be too fast for any detection as he wanted to hack into the computer. Had he thought of bringing Fang with him, he wouldn’t need to do things the old fashion way. That demon could track anything better than a bloodhound, but Fang had a very pregnant mate to worry about.

At the desk, he woke the computer and again summoned his magic to assist him in seeing the password that was used daily to access this piece of equipment. His power forced the keys to type out each letter, number, and symbol until it was unlocked. Once done, he tapped her name into a search directory, hoping they still had her information on file. After all, she had been missing for two years. Luckily, it didn’t take long for her file to come up and he was actually appalled they used such primitive protection on their systems. Of course, they probably were not expecting a demon to break in, but then again, Zolar’s minions were still in the human’s news broadcasts since they didn’t give a rat’s ass about being seen.

He opened the file and was presented with a photo of the doctor and her impressive bio. She graduated from the top of her class, then was offered an internship here where she worked her way to the head of her department. That explained her picture on the lobby wall. He continued scanning the information, but there wasn’t anything here that told him much about her or her work. At the end, there was a comment that her office had been cleaned out six months ago and her work transferred.

It was a dead end for him.

She must have dozedoff again because next thing she knew, both Aimee and Bethany were there screaming, and Aimee was pulling on the ropes.

“You have to help her.”

Sheila sat up, rubbing her wrists, and that was when she saw Bethany clutching her pregnant belly. Blood seeped between her fingers. She sprang into action and was beside the woman in a second. While she was only a scientist, she had taken first aid and knew this wasn’t good.

“What happened to her?”

Aimee wrung her hands. “She was shot while we were out shopping.”

“You have some serious bleeding going on.” She looked up at Aimee again. “Can’t you get us out of here?”

“I can probably take us back so we can get her to a hospital.”
