“She needs to go home,” Fang’s voice rang out, and he knelt beside Bethany. “Myhaurachaaera. What happened?” He placed his arms around Bethany and lifted her off the ground.

Next thing Sheila knew, she was sucked into a portal and landed in a place unlike any she had ever seen in her life.

“Fang, what are we doing here? The baby needs a doctor,” Bethany asked.

“Do you plan to perform some demon magic?” Sheila hadn’t meant for the words to come out in a snap, but she really was concerned about Bethany’s bleeding.

Fang whirled. “Who the fuck are you?”

“She’s the doctor that helped me when I was in the lab. Helped Bethany too.” Aimee wrung her hands. “She was tied to the bed. That’s all I know.”

Bethany screamed in pain. “The baby!”

Sheila rushed forward. “She needs medical help, or she will bleed out. We also don’t know what organs may have been hit. Even demon babies need special care if born too early.”

“Someone get her away,” Fang snarled.

“She shouldn’t be here, anyway. She’s my prisoner.” Zander grabbed her by the arm and dragged her from the scene.

“Your species is barbaric,” she hissed at Zander. “I was only trying to help her.”

“They don’t need your help and you know nothing about us.”

She ignored him since he was probably right anyway and took in her surroundings. Was this Atlantis? They were inside what she guessed was a palace. The floor beneath her feet was pure white marble with gold veins. The walls appeared to be stucco and had vast areas of vibrant color tile mosaics. As they passed a large archway that led to a garden, it was then she caught what she thought were fish swimming in the distance. She blinked.

“Are those fish I see?” She blinked again, and the scene didn’t change. There was definitely a school of fish swimming in the distance.

“What else would you expect in the ocean?”

“Umm, are you saying we are in the water?” She pulled and took him by surprise and freed herself. Running toward the archway, she stepped through until she was outside and looked up. Where one might expect to see blue skies and the sun, there was nothing but water and schools of fish darting about.

“How is this possible? I mean, I can see sunlight.” If she moved her gaze into the gardens, they were awash with sunshine. The beauty of the place was so breathtaking, words couldn’t begin to describe it. “This is Atlantis, isn’t it?”

He simply scowled at her, grabbed her arm, and jerked her back to his hard body.

Zander grippedthe doctor’s arm tighter than he probably should have, and she scowled at him.

“You take great joy in hurting me,” she snapped.

“I’m no different from you then, am I?” He glared at her before he jerked her back down the corridor. After all, this female had been part of Zolar’s group of minions who were busy trying to locate human women who might carry demon DNA so they could impregnate them using the males who had been taken from his home. Their end game was to produce a hybrid child so Zolar might gain access to Atlantis. To his knowledge, they had yet to succeed in getting a human to carry to term and for that, he was thankful. Not only because it meant Zolar had no hold on their world yet, but it also meant Zander had no children of his own he needed to worry about. He had to wonder if the doctor here knew more about why there were no successful births yet than she let on. As he glared at her, he bristled further, realizing she got under his skin.

“You don’t belong here. My home is not for your eyes.”

She tried to pull free of his grip again, but this time, he held tight.

“Where do I belong then? Tied to your bed? You truly are no different from Zolar.”

Her words were full of hatred, and he wanted to brush them off, but he found himself pissed at the thought of Zolar touching her. “He raped you?” He curled his fingers into fists.

She glared at him. “I never said that.”

“You alluded, and I am nothing like Zolar, who is a god with an agenda. You are the one who was in Zolar’s employ.”

“I’d hardly call being his prisoner employed.”

“I am much different from that bastard of a god. For one, I didn’t kill my father-in-law, then try to kill my wife as he did. I haven’t enslaved an entire species in order to gain control of a city, nor have I kidnapped humans and forced unwanted pregnancies on them.” He stopped so he could glare at her harder. “I’ve only taken you as my hostage because you have information I want. At the moment, I’ve done nothing worse than tie you to a bed.”
