Oliver pushes back his shoulders, so his chest puffs out. “Are you?”

“I need to speak to her.” He gives Oliver a once-over. “How much do you bench?”

“Not a whole lot, to be honest.” Oliver flexes the bicep of his left arm. “I naturally have good muscle tone.”

Nathaniel looks at me and winks. “I’m a big cardio fan. Nothing like getting your heart pounding and your blood rushing. What about you, Jayne? Do you like cardio?”

I know exactly his favorite kind of cardio. It’s done in bed or against a wall or in the shower and not alone. I place my hands on my hips, annoyed at him and myself for my mind going to sex again. “Are you finished?”

“Now, come on, Jayne,” he says with a grin that I want to wipe off his face. “You know I never finish early. Anyway.” He turns to Oliver and extends his arm. “I’m Nate, and you are?”

“Oliver.” He shakes Nathaniel’s hand.

“Can you give me some hints and tips?” Nathaniel asks, drawing this out just to frustrate me more. I can tell by his smile and the way his gaze keeps darting to mine.

Oliver shrugs. “I don’t know. It depends on what you need hints and tips for.”

“Lots of things.” Nathaniel smirks, telling me I’m right about him doing this to get at me. “Mainly the gym and how I can build my muscles like yours.”

I’ve had enough of his stupid games and inane conversation. I force a smile but still grit my teeth. “I have work to do. So if you two want to finish this conversation in the hallway or bar, that’ll be great. I’m sure there’s even a gym somewhere in the hotel.”

“I don’t know, Oliver,” Nathaniel says. “Do you want to finish this conversation elsewhere? To be honest, I’m happy to stay here.”

I give Oliver a short nod toward the door. He snags his shirt from the end of my bed. “I’m gonna go. I’ll speak to you later. This isn’t done, Jayne.”

When he sweeps past us and out of the room, Nathaniel whistles. “Is he upset or confused? I can’t really tell with those bro types.”

I close my eyes, hoping when I open them, he’ll also be gone. “What do you want, Nathaniel?”

“You’re a real dark horse, aren’t you?”

My eyes flash open. “What do you mean by that?”

“Having a younger man in your room when you’ve only been back from the courthouse for an hour. Only an hour since I kissed you, making your legs turn to jelly.” He tsks. “Yep, one very dark horse, Jayne.”

“It’s none of your business who I have in my room.” How can the man be pissing me off and making me feel flattered at the same time? Either he’s that slick, or I must be more tired than I realized. “You have no claim on me.”

He takes a step closer, and I fight the urge to step back. “Are you sure about that, given your reaction to my kiss? And let’s not forget our night—”

“Cut the alpha-hole bullshit.” I bark out a laugh. “One night was all it was meant to be. That was our agreement, which we fulfilled.”

Heat flares in his gaze. “You going all legal eagle is much hotter than I thought it would be.”

His desire for me is almost palpable. Whatever I intend to say is no longer in my mind.

His hand goes to my waist, and he pulls me to him. We stand mere inches apart, and his breath fans my skin. He’s close enough that I smell his aftershave and can tell he uses mint-flavored toothpaste. God help me, but I want him.

What the hell is wrong with me?

I swallow hard. “I’m a lawyer. Your opposition’s counsel.”

“In the courtroom, yes.” He glances around. “But it’s only you and me here now.”

He’s making this so hard, but I can’t. “What do you want?”

“Oh, I think you know what I want.”

His voice, quiet and seductive, washes over me like a caress, and my panties get wet. As his fingers find bare skin between my T-shirt and the waistband of my jeans, I push my hips forward. “Nathaniel,” I whisper.
