“Hide and seek. You know the rules,” he replied.

“Of course, but I thought you wanted to keep an eye on me today after last night.”

“Let’s say I’m willing to take a gamble.”

“Okay. Are there any boundaries? Where am I not allowed to go?” I inquired.

“Beyond the gate,” he instructed. “Everywhere else is fair game.”

“That’s quite an expanse,” I noted. “You could be searching for me until the two weeks are up.”

“No, I get one hour.”

“And if you find me?”

“You’ll owe me a piece of yourself,” he answered.

“A piece of me? What kind of piece?” I asked.

“A secret. I can ask anything, and you must answer truthfully,” he disclosed.

I sighed, looking away briefly before returning my focus to him. “You already know everything about me.”

“I believe there are things you’re withholding, which is why I’m willing to gamble for it.”

I groaned, increasingly disliking this game, but I understood I had no choice. It seemed that my only option was to continue asking questions.

“Do I receive something if the hour expires?” I inquired.

“If I can’t locate you within an hour, I’ll give you the key to your collar, thereby granting you your freedom,” he said, leaving me in shock.

“W-What? You’d cut the two weeks short?”

“I would.”

“B-But there’s no way you could find me within an hour,” I asserted.

“Are you willing to accept the wager?” he asked, crossing his arms. “I am, or else you can kneel right now and pleasure your Master. Either way, I will emerge victorious.”

I pondered my options, weighing them carefully, but I already knew which one was more appealing.

“Very well. Hide and seek it is. Close your eyes.”

“Was that an order, slave?” he growled. I stepped a little closer, bringing our bodies into close proximity. No one was immune to my charm, not even Jared.

In a husky voice, I responded, “Yes. You can punish me when you find me.”

His eyes darkened at the thought of punishing me once more, but I was on the path to freedom, and I no longer cared about what he might do to me. This time, I was getting out for good.

“So?” I challenged him to close his eyes, and a sly smile crept across his lips before he obliged.

I slipped away, tiptoeing out of the room and then sprinting once I was clear of the kitchen. Jared had no idea who he was dealing with. He had wagered it all, but today, he would lose.

Chapter 12

-Jared-

I made my way to Vince’s office. Finding it empty, I entered and closed the door behind me before taking a seat at his desk. I picked up the work that was laid out in front of me, bringing my laptop into play as I began my own research on all of my targets. They appeared clean on the surface, but it was often the worst scum that hid behind a façade, portraying themselves as good men when they were, in fact, worse than the rats dwelling beneath our feet. People tended to turn a blind eye to the darkness that existed in our world, allowing them to ignore the fact that these men were more diabolical than the devil himself.
