The King has been taken. Per-Siana is falling…
Weeks after being kidnapped in his own palace, Xerxes finds himself across the desert in the foreign land of B’rei Mira as a war captive, forced to be put on display in a Museum of Living Hostages where danger lurks around every corner and each day could be his last.
Xerxes doesn’t expect to live long, but when he discovers his kingdom is a breath away from falling into the hands of his greatest enemy, his old voices come calling, tempting him to do terrible things that will bring his demise.
Meanwhile, Ryn fights to guard the border of Per-Siana with General Reza, hoping and believing that Xerxes is still alive. But when a tragedy occurs, she finds herself in a spiralling state where nothing can satisfy her—except for one thing. One forbidden thing she knows not to do because it would go against her calling.
When Ryn and Xerxes are reunited, Xerxes notices there’s something different about Ryn since he saw her in the desert fighting under the title of Commander Adassah. And when B’rei Mira strikes a deal that crushes Xerxes’s heart and fuels Ryn’s anger, Xerxes realizes everything he ever wanted is slipping through his fingers. He’s left with only two options: Do something terrible that will get him killed or listen to the god of his childhood enemies who’s been calling to him in his head.
Moments in this book are inspired by the faith of Moses in the Bible.
