One wedding to save. One scandal to avoid. And a marriage neither Elizabeth nor Darcy ever intended.
Eight months after their disastrous encounter at Hunsford, Elizabeth Bennet has little desire to see Mr Darcy again. Unfortunately, with Jane’s wedding to Mr Bingley only days away, the proud gentleman has returned to Hertfordshire. Elizabeth has promised to be civil. She has made no promises about liking him.
But when a malicious scheme threatens to ruin Jane’s happiness, Elizabeth finds herself forced to seek the assistance of the very man she trusts least. And much to her surprise, Mr Darcy proves a rather useful ally.
Their uneasy alliance takes a most unexpected turn when one of Mrs Bennet’s schemes goes disastrously wrong, leaving Elizabeth and Darcy trapped together in a cellar. By the time they are discovered, half of Meryton has gathered to witness their disgrace.
With Elizabeth’s reputation in ruins, marriage seems the only respectable solution.
Now Elizabeth finds herself Mrs Darcy, bound to a man she never intended to marry. Yet as she begins to discover the gentleman beneath his proud exterior, she wonders whether their unfortunate marriage might hold the promise of something more.
But an old enemy has not forgotten the Darcys, and their unexpected happiness may be threatened before it has even begun.
Can a marriage born of scandal become a love neither dared to hope for?
