“Dan. I’m close,” I gasp.
He reaches over to the bedside table and pulls a condom out of the drawer.
“We don’t need one,” I say. “I’m covered.”
He shakes his head. “That sounds amazing, but I’ll be one thrust and done if I don’t wear a condom right now.”
And I watch him roll it down, his rough hands somehow so sexy while he’s doing it. Then he’s back over me and pushing inside, and he makes an unreal noise like an animal in pain, and I know I want to hear that noise again but I don’t think I ever will.
He stills for a few seconds. Goddammit, Dan, I want it hard and fast. I want tofeelhim everywhere, so I grab his ass and squeeze, locking my legs around his hips and lifting up into him.
He groans again and grinds against me, and my breath stalls.
“Dan, I ...”
His mouth locks onto mine as he begins to move, and in seconds I’m tightening around him.
“Fuck, fuck, you’re there. So fast.Jesus, Liss.”
He props up on his hands and looks down at where he’s moving in me, his eyes closing as if he’s in pain. “Oh God, I didn’t need to see how good that looks, ” he says. “Oh God, Liss. I can’t hold back. I’m just …”
And I’m looking into his eyes as my orgasm barrels through me, muscles locking up, and I feel him pulsing as he shudders and fights to keep his eyes open.
“Oh, fuck,” he says, collapsing onto me, hot breath gusting and loud in my ear. The whole house feels like it’s groaning, pipes creaking happily. Dan suddenly lifts his head, curls a sweaty mess as he grins down at me.
“Glad to see we haven’t lost the knack of good sex at speed,” he says.

LISS

The house is full of old dark furniture, rattling pipes and scuffed floors, but I’ve stayed in places without any electricity or running water, so it’s all luxury to me. When we went all around the farm yesterday evening with Benny, it became clear to me that Dan’s commitment to her is a huge deal. How are we going to compromise and have some kind of long-distance relationship?
As I come slowly down the wooden stairs the following morning, a rumble of voices reaches me from the kitchen. His brother didn’t turn up last night, and I’m curious to meet the only member of his immediate family that’s left, but my steps slow as I approach the room and hear the tenor of their voices.
“We’ve got three calves that are sick so far.”
“Do we know what it is yet?” Dan’s voice.
“No clue. Hammond is coming out today to inspect them.”
“God, I hope it’s not serious.”
This produces a grunt of agreement.
“We can’t afford to have anything else go wrong. We’re short enough of money as it is.”
“I know that, Dan. Fuck, I know that. Any progress with lawyers yesterday?”
“I talked to a few ‘no-win, no-fee’ guys. They didn’t give me an immediate no. I’m setting up some meetings.”
“Well, at least that’s something. Do we both need to go?”
“We probably should.” There’s quiet for several seconds until Dan says, “You remember Liss came down yesterday?”
“Yeah. Sorry I didn’t get back until three in the morning. Too many things to deal with.”
