“I’m just saying. There was nothing fake about that. Because if you were faking those orgasms, we’re going to have a talk, and then I’m going to have to try harder to make you come on my face. Twice.”
“Heath Cassidy, we are having a very serious conversation right now.”
“Are we?” he asked, his voice going into that purr again.
Damn him.
“I need to stand up for myself. I need to just tell them. Okay?”
He moved then, coming around the counter to cup my face. His thumb brushed my cheekbone and I leaned into him. This was a problem. A major one. But one I would deal with later.
“Okay. But if they’re mean to you, I’m going to kick some ass.”
“They’re my family. You don’t get to kick their ass.”
“Then you can tell them I’m very disappointed in them. How’s that?” His tone was so dry that I burst out laughing.
“I still don’t think you could beat the mom stare.”
“I’ll practice. I do have the big brother stare.”
“I suppose that’ll work. Now speaking of work, I know you’re off, but didn’t you want to go and check in to see how everyone did last night?”
He winced. “I swear I’m like a mother duck.”
“I was going to say micromanager, but I kind of like the idea of you as a mother duck.”
He grinned and kissed the tip of my nose. It was little things like that which were a problem.
Because I had fallen for him. I had fallen for the idea of him even when he was just a fake boyfriend. And now, with the real Heath Cassidy? Yes, I was in trouble.
We showered, thankfully quickly and not touching each other. It was hard not to touch each other when we were showering. Then he headed out. I sighed and grabbed my computer.
My text messages popped on, and I held back a laugh.
Addison:You haven’t checked in after the wedding, so either you’re in a ditch somewhere, or you’ve had some really good times with Heath. Please respond.
Paisley:Yes, please do so. And not just for work. Though, I do like when you check in for work because I’m a micromanager.
I burst out laughing and responded.
Me:I’m alive. No ditches. Though I am exhausted.
Addison:Bragger.
Paisley:Good for you. And please don’t work today. Rest up.
I snorted, shaking my head as I sat cross-legged on the couch with my laptop.
Me:I have that big family dinner tonight where I have to tell them that I’m a horrible liar.
Paisley:Keep your chin high, explain what you did, be truly sorry for it because I know you are, and make sure they understand the why of it. Even if the why may not make sense to them.
Addison:And don’t let them make you feel too bad, because they need to see where they were wrong too.
I had friends here. Family. So much family that while it was overwhelming, I knew I would never be alone. I had to move past this. I had already begun to with Heath, but I needed to do this one last thing before I let myself be okay.
Me:They don’t have to take my apology. I lied. I’ll have to deal with the consequences.
