I flipped him off as the girls came out of the bathroom, Devney veering towards the bar. Well, it was now or never.
I got up and the guys cheered me on. I ignored them, as well as the looks of confusion from the women.
I walked up to Devney and put my hand on her hip. She whirled, eyes wide, and I cursed.
“Sorry, it’s me.”
“Yeah, maybe don’t do that when my back is turned and I’m at a bar.”
“Sorry. Sorry, baby,” I whispered before I pressed my lips to hers.
She smiled and I looked into her eyes. They weren’t glassy, and she had only had one drink, so I figured it was a good time to ask.
“Hey, Ace’s wedding is in a couple of weeks.”
Devney grinned. “I know.”
“Do you want to be my date?”
“Grace was wondering if you were going to ask me,” she said dryly.
“Sorry,” I said with a wince. “Between the bar and getting the wedding set up and all that crap, I hadn’t really thought about it. Not that I don’t think about you, it just, well, you know.”
“I get it. You are his best man and have been getting ready for the wedding long before we started seeing each other. But yes, I would love to go to the wedding with you. It’ll be nice to go to a wedding not for one of my numerous siblings.”
That made me laugh. “Well, good. I already have their gift picked out from the registry, so you don’t even have to worry about that. It’ll be fun. I haven’t taken a date to a wedding before.”
“Me either, but I have a feeling my reason is different than yours.”
“Well,” I said, knowing that my cheeks were a little pink.
“Picking up wedding guests or bridesmaids seems to be the thing.”
“Well, I am the best man, but the only person I’m picking up at this wedding will be you.”
“Smooth.”
“I try.”
I leaned down and kissed her again. Denise cleared her throat, and we parted so we could order drinks for the table.
“So, Paisley and August?”
I held out a hand. “I have no fucking clue. Honestly.”
“Also, I like that Addison and Luca seem to be getting along. I don’t sense any chemistry, which is fine since she needs a friend, especially a guy who isn’t an asshole.”
“We’re really going to have to roll up on her job and kick some asses, aren’t we?” I asked as we picked up the trays of drinks.
“Maybe not. She can handle it herself. But I like that our groups are blending. And I hope there won’t be any tension in the future with a certain couple.”
“Your mouth to the Cassidy God’s ears.”
She laughed, and it was the greatest fucking sound in the world.
When we sat back down, she sat practically in my lap, since we were nearly out of space, and I just enjoyed the moment.
I had a date to a wedding.
