“You’re a good guy, August.”
As soon as I said the words, August’s face closed down and he pressed his lips together. “Not in some people’s minds,” he mumbled, and I turned to see the girls walking in.
They were laughing at something, though I wasn’t sure what, but they were all smiles, like they didn’t have cares in the world. Even though I knew that they did, and today was going to be slightly awkward. But while I wanted to see Paisley’s reaction to August and how my brother was going to handle it, I only had eyes for Devney.
She was gorgeous tonight, in a flowing peach-colored dress. She also wore these little wicker-looking wedges that had white straps, and she had painted her toes white.
She was so gorgeous, it was hard for me to breathe.
“You’re here,” Luca said as he pushed past me and went right up to Addison.
Addison ignored him and went straight for Pongo. She put out her hand, and Pongo sniffed it before putting his little paws up and reaching for her.
“Am I allowed to pick him up?”
“Go for it. But let’s go sit over at the table so we don’t annoy other people.”
“Hello, Pongo. Luca told me all about you. Isn’t this bar the best? Yes. But your Auntie Addison is here to make sure you have all of your daydreams and puppy dreams fulfilled.” She held him like a baby as he sniffed her neck, and she took a seat on the other side of the booth from us.
“Hello, everyone,” she said, but not looking at us. She only had eyes for Pongo.
“Well, we see where we stand,” Devney said dryly as she came over. I put my arm around her waist and pulled her towards me, crushing my lips to hers.
Somebody wolf whistled, but I ignored them. I just wanted her taste.
“Hello,” I whispered.
She looked up at me and licked her lips.
Oh yeah, this was it. Right here.
We had been together a few more times since that first time, but I still couldn’t believe she was mine. For now.
“Hi,” she breathed.
Greer rolled her eyes behind Devney when I finally looked up.
“Hello, your sister’s here too,” she said with a laugh.
“Sorry about that,” I said, as I pulled Greer in for a hug, kissing the top of her head.
“Thanks for inviting me, I like being out like this,” Greer said as she hugged me back. “Who knows, I might invite some of my friends, too, just take over the whole bar.”
I shuddered as I looked over at Noah. “If you bring all of your family or Ford’s, I’m going to have to open a second bar.”
“Pretty much,” Noah said with a laugh as he got up to hug my sister.
I ignored their deep kiss, and then her deep kiss with Ford. I didn’t mind my baby sister being in love with two men. I did mind watching it.
“Get that look off your face,” Devney said with a laugh. “You just made out with me in the middle of your bar, and you have a problem with that?”
I narrowed my gaze. “How the hell did you know what I was thinking?”
“Because you’re scowling. It’s pretty easy,” she said.
I looked up, past Ace and Grace who were kissing sweetly, and over at Paisley. She stood awkwardly to the side before she cleared her throat.
“Hey, come on, let’s get a drink.”
