“She’s Devney’s boss. And they’re becoming friends. I am sort of under the impression that when Paisley moved out here, she didn’t have a lot of friends and was starting over. Like we are.”

August cursed. “Damn it. Yeah, I can see that. She’s really good at focusing on one thing and making sure it works. I’ll get over it. Denver’s a big city, but with you dating her friend, I can’t really avoid her forever. It would be good to meet up at your place. It’s sort of neutral ground, and sort of more my ground.”

“I’m not going to ask you what happened, because you could tell me if you needed to.”

“It’s good that you understand that. There’s no need to rehash it.”

The problem was, I knew he was lying. They definitely needed to rehash it. But he was right, Iwasseeing Devney. And that wasn’t going to change anytime soon, even though that thought surprised me.

“Anyway, I’ll text Devney that she can bring the girls by during their barhopping tonight.”

“Okay, Luca will like seeing Addison there.”

“You think anything’s going on there?”

“No, which is probably a good thing because Addison and Devney are best friends. But it’s nice to see Luca smiling more and hanging out. Those two just clicked.”

“Yeah. They did. It will be one big happy family.”

“Since Greer’s men are coming tonight, do you know if Greer’s going with the girls?”

“Yep. And Ace’s fiancée, Grace is going too. It’s a big event.”

“See? There’s going to be so many people there it’s not going to matter that my ex-wife is also there.”

I was sure he wasn’t telling the truth, but I just agreed and said my goodbyes.

I grabbed my things and headed to the bar. While I wasn’t working today, I never really got a day off. I went in to make sure the team was ready to go.

“How are we doing?” I asked, and Ace looked up from the bar. I snorted and shook my head. “Look at us, the worst workaholics ever.”

“Everything’s fine, I was just helping out Denise.”

“I didn’t need any help, but I do appreciate you changing out the kegs.”

“It’s not that you can’t lift them, it’s that they’re awkwardly wide. You can do it, but if I do it now, you can do the next ten later.”

“Be still my beating heart. What would I do without a man helping me lift things?”

“Denise,” I said with a roll of my eyes.

She waved me off. “I’m kidding. I appreciate you. And I really do hate the angle of that particular tap. It is a pain in the ass.”

“You’re right. I wonder if there’s something we can do about it.”

Ace studied it too and nodded. “Yeah, let’s look into it.”

“You guys don’t have to fix something just because I said it was annoying.”

“You’re right, we don’t, but if it’s annoying you, and you actually said something about it, something you never do, that means it’s probably annoying other people.”

“That is true,” she said with a laugh.

“So, we will work on it as a team.”

Ace and I talked it over for a few minutes, and then my brothers, as well as Greer’s men walked in.

I frowned and looked at the clock and realized more time had passed than I had thought.
