“Naw,” Nolan shook his head. “Ma isn’t like that. She wants to know you. I want you to know her.”

It was hard to believe that this woman who I’d never met wanted me in her son's life and in her life, but I wanted that so badly I was willing to believe it for the moment.

“I’d love that.”

He snorted. “You’ll be the favorite,” he muttered. I hardly thought that was true. She clearly loved him, no matter what form he came in. She still loved him even though he loved me.

“You don’t talk about your dad,” I said quietly.

Nolan heaved a deep breath and his hand rubbed up and down my back.

“My parents had me later in life,” he started. “Ma was almost forty when she had me. Not long after I was born, my dad got cancer.”

I shifted to find Nolan staring driectly into the fire without really seeing it.

“I’m sorry,” I said quietly.

“He got to see me graduate and sign my first contract. He died knowing I got everything I worked so hard for and that Ma would be taken care of.”

Nolan smiled sadly and refocused on me.

“He never got to meet you though,” he kissed my brow. I mourned the loss of a man I’d never met. Nolan had good parents. The kind every one of us deserved.

He was quiet for a moment and then asked, “Do you think it’s one of them?”

I shook my head.

“They would never ever want to be associated with me. The last time I talked to my parents, they demanded fifty grand.”

“Did you give it to them?”

I shook my head. “They wanted nothing to do with me after that.”

“I’m sorry, Holden,” he murmured and pressed a kiss to my hair. I shifted and looked at him.

“I’m sorry, what? I think I hallucinated for a second. What did you say?”

“I wasn’t apologizing for anything I did,” he said defensively.

“I know, but still, I didn’t even know if you knew what those words were.” I grinned.

“Fuck you,” he growled.

“Yes, please,” I reached between us, finding him hard. I rubbed his bulge. There was no fucking way I was waiting until tonight.

He rumbled, and his grip on me tightened.

Nolan

The kisses started slow. I wasn’t sure he’d come, especially given the last minute request, but just like when he asked me, he didn’t hesitate. I knew he was scared, and at bare minimum, I could give him a place where he didn’t have to worry about being caught.

I spent the last two weeks trying to figure out how to find the blackmailer but came up dry. I had one option left, and when we got home, I would make the call.

For now, he was in my lap, pulling my cock out of my pants and kissing me deeply.

“Take me to bed, Nolan,” he breathed. I shot up and nearly dumped him in the fire. I caught him and wasted no time dragging him to the bedroom.

It was a nice room. It had a fireplace, views, and an attached bathroom, but the most crucial part was the bed.
