“Do you want to know how many orgasms that man gave me the other night?”

“That’s not what I meant,” Alex said. “He can fuck you, but is he good to you outside the bedroom. You haven’t let anyone in in a long time, and I’m worried he’ll crush you. We all know what he’s like.”

“You don’t. You know the side he lets you see. He drove down that night because I had a bad game, and he was worried about me. He didn’t even think about it. He just got in his car and drove. He holds me all night and makes me feel safe. The Nolan everyone knows isn’t the Nolan I know.”

“Christ,” he ran a hand over his face. “You’re doing this, aren’t you?”

“Yeah,” I said. “Please don’t fight it.”

“Okay,” he sighed and stuffed his hands in his pockets. “Is he the reason you played like shit?”

“He’s the reason I’m in the running for MVP.” Alex scoffed. I gave him a look, and he cut it out. “That game had nothing to do with him. I got in my head, and I couldn’t get out.”

“Yeah,” he breathed. That was something he could understand. It happened to every player. That was my only bad game this season, so I was forgiven as long as it didn’t happen again.

We walked in silence for a while. It was getting cold as the last of the sunlight vanished and the lamp posts flickered on.

“So,” Alex broke the silence with some gay curiosity. “What’s angry sex with him like?” I rolled my eyes. I guess I should have expected that. But it was a sign that he’d moved from anger to acceptance. So, I would take a minute to talk about my sex life.

“I don’t know,” I said.

“What do you mean you ‘don’t know’?” He bristled.

“We’ve never had angry sex.”

“Bullshit,” he laughed.

“Alex,” I sighed. “He is gentle and tender and sweet. He’s protective and goes to extraordinary lengths to keep this secret. When it’s just us, he’s soft and warm. When he makes me cum, my teeth vibrate, and I still have a cramp in my toes.” I shook my foot out because it was true. But every time I cramped up, my cock twitched, and my heart ached.

Alex’s mouth was hanging open.

“That’s a joke, right?”

I laughed.

“There is no angry sex,” I said and started walking again. “But jealous sex, that was an entirely different beast.” My skin grew hot and red.

“Jealous sex?” Alex caught up.

“Remember when we went to the bar, and those women flirted with us?” An embarrassed grin spread across my face. I could hear his grunting in my ear again. The possessive hold he had on my body was heating my blood.

“But you’re gay,” he said confused. “You were never going to bring them back to the hotel.”

“He did not care at all.” I shivered. Alex made a gagging noise.

“Hey, you started this conversation.”

“Possessive much?”

“He is,” I agreed. “He’s protective and defensive. I’ve never really had anyone in my corner before. He’s all in.”

“Well, that explains Ennis,” he muttered.

“Yeah,” I said. “He got pretty worked up over that. He didn’t even like Ennis coming after you.”

“Bullshit,” Alex muttered. I shrugged. He could believe what he wanted, truth or not.

“He’s an ass, but he didn’t want anyone to get hurt.”
