I don't waste a second. My fingers fly over the keys, crafting a response. I tell her we should meet here, at my place, to hash out the details. Neutral ground, no office politics, no prying eyes—just the two of us, architecting our little plot.

"Isabella," I write, opting for a setting that ensures both neutrality and discretion, "Let's set the stage for our performance. How about dinner at the Azure Room, downtown? It's a quiet place, perfect for conversation away from the hustle of our usual circles. We can iron out the fine print and strategize our next move in a setting that's neutral for both of us."

I hit send before I can second-guess the decision. It's done. The invitation is out there, hanging in the digital void between us.

I push back from the desk, standing to stretch my legs, my body too wired to sit still. I wander over to the window, hands tucked into my pockets, and look out over the city that’s become the playing field for my most audacious game yet.

Tonight, Isabella Carrington steps into my world, and we begin this dance in earnest. I have to be ready, be on point, because there’s more riding on this than just appeasing skittish investors or securing a stadium deal.

I've always been good at keeping my feelings in check, at keeping the game and the players at a comfortable distance. But as I think of Isabella—her fire, her intelligence, the way she's always managed to get under my skin—I wonder if this time, I might be playing with fire.

The stakes are high, the risks even higher. But that's the way I like it.

A flicker of something like nerves tickles my stomach as I glance around my penthouse. It's not like me to fuss over details, but then, Isabella Carrington isn't just anyone. She's—hopefully—about to become my faux fiancée in the most high-stakes performance of my life. I straighten a cushion on the leather couch, my movements precise, a silent acknowledgment of the tension I can't quite name.

As I stand in front of the mirror, I take a moment to assess my attire, ensuring it strikes the perfect balance between sharp businessman and charm. I've chosen tailored black trousers, the fabric high-quality, fitting snugly in all the right places to accentuate my athletic build. The trousers are paired with a crisp white shirt, the top button casually undone, giving a glimpse of my tattoos, the contrasting persona beneath the polished exterior.

I forgo a tie, opting instead for a sleek, silver tie clip—a subtle nod to my less conventional side. My shoes are classic leather, impeccably polished, reflecting my attention to detail.

I give myself a final once-over, my reflection in the mirror satisfying my critical eye. This outfit says I mean business, but on my terms.

Arriving early at the Azure Room, I find myself momentarily captivated by the restaurant's interior. The ambiance is a blend of modern sophistication and understated elegance—dimmed lights casting a warm glow over rich, dark wood furnishings and plush seating. The subtle hum of conversation and the soft clinking of glasses create an atmosphere that's both intimate and lively.

I'm seated at a table with a clear view of the entrance, my back to the wall—a habit from my days on the ice, always wanting to see the play before it unfolds. The rare flutter of anxiety in my chest is an unfamiliar sensation, one I quickly quash with a sip of my drink.

When Isabella enters, there's an unmistakable shift in the atmosphere, as if the entire space has taken notice of her presence. She's absolutely striking—a vision of poise and power that commands the room's attention effortlessly.

Her suit is impeccably tailored, hugging her figure in a way that's both professional and alluring. The fabric contours to her form, highlighting the curve of her hip and the elegant line of her shoulders. The cut is sharp, exuding a sense of authority, yet it's undeniably feminine, emphasizing her strengths while showcasing her natural allure.

The color of her suit is a deep, rich hue that complements her complexion beautifully. It's paired with a blouse that adds just the right touch of softness to the ensemble. The subtle details—a hint of lace at the collar, the gentle drape of the fabric—only add to her elegant appearance.

Her hair is styled to perfection, framing her face in a way that accentuates her features. There's a certain glow about her, a radiance that comes not just from her physical beauty but from the confidence and intelligence she exudes.

As she moves through the room, every step she takes is measured and deliberate, a testament to her self-assuredness. Her eyes, sharp and observant, scan the room before landing on me, and in that moment, I'm struck by their intensity—a deep, captivating gaze that speaks of strength and determination.

"Isabella," I greet as she approaches the table, my voice a controlled baritone. The underlying tension of our situation is palpable, but I keep my expression carefully neutral.

"Dom," she replies, her tone cool yet courteous. Our eyes lock briefly, an acknowledgment of the complex dynamic we're navigating.

As she takes her seat, there's a dance of formality, a careful balance between the professional and the personal. I can't help but admire how she carries herself—the confidence, the poise. It's compelling, even more so given our current predicament.

The waiter approaches, and we order our meals, the exchange with him a brief respite from the undercurrents between us. Once he departs, I lean in slightly, my elbows on the table.

"So, let's discuss the details of our arrangement," I say, keen to get down to business. The sooner we iron out the particulars, the sooner we can present a united front to the world.

Isabella nods, her expression turning more business-like. "Agreed. We need to set some ground rules for this... engagement."

And so, we delve into the specifics, our conversation a careful negotiation of boundaries and expectations. Throughout it all, I'm acutely aware of her, of the subtle shifts in her expression, the nuances in her voice. Despite the professional veneer, there's an undercurrent of something more, something neither of us is ready to acknowledge.

But rules have always been a starting point for me, a baseline to deviate from when the play calls for it.

Isabella, with her notes and files, is all efficiency and sharp edges. I’m all leaned-back nonchalance, or at least, that’s the image I project as we hash out the logistics of this farce we’re about to embark on.

“So, public appearances at key events, strategically timed social media posts...” Isabella ticks off the points on her fingers, her eyes never leaving the page. “And this...” she flicks a look up at me, “engagement party we’re supposed to have?”

“Ah, yes, the party,” I drawl, savoring the way her mouth tightens just slightly at the mention. “It’ll be the talk of the town, nothing too extravagant, of course.”
