CHAPTER 28

Everly Winters:I’m not saying a word until you switch my mic off.

Logan was standing two feet in front of her, but Everly sent the text anyway.

They’d ducked into an alleyway around the corner from the restaurant Stanton had chosen for Everly and her mom to have a bonding moment. But her mom was stuck in a meeting, Stanton was running late, and Sady was on the phone putting out a production-related fire (metaphorically—Everly hoped).

When Everly and Logan realized they were on the sidewalk alone, Logan had powered down his camera and waved her toward the relative privacy of the alley. But now that she knew Sady’s secret to catching stolen moments, Everly didn’t plan to give her any more.

Her phone pinged.

Logan Samuel:Turn around.

She obeyed, angling her back toward him, and lifted the hem of her white sweater so he could access the battery pack hooked to the waistband of the maroon corduroy skirt Jazzy had picked for this outing.

It was quiet enough between the restaurant and the small boutique furniture store next door that she could hear the telltaleclickwhen he found the Power button.

Before she could face him again, he slid his palms along her bare stomach. His skin was hot against hers, and that familiar shiver of want danced through her.

Everly twisted in his arms until they were face-to-face, and his roaming hands trekked across her back. Their mouths collided in a kiss, hard and deep and hungry, full of all the things they wanted to do right now but knew they shouldn’t.

The threat of getting caught by a passerby or someone from the show only increased the thrill. Everly’s blood raced, lava hot, and the ache at her center swelled when Logan’s hands tightened on her ass, pressing her more firmly to him and the hardness below his belt.

For a moment, she gave in. Everly let herself forget that they were in public, that Sady could catch them, could film this, couldairit. She let go of her anger with Sady for the last episode of the show, where they’d spliced together clips of James and Everly at the bar, the two of them dancing, their kiss, smiling as they’d taken shots. To anyone who didn’t know the truth, it looked as if they’d gotten together, and from what Becca had told her, everyone online saw it that way. And tons of them were mad at her for betraying Logan.

At least she didn’t have to deal with the fallout from James, since they were still barely speaking. Who knew if he was watching anymore? And quite frankly, who cared? Everly was more concerned about why Sady continued to feel that downplaying her actual story was the only way to keep ratings high.

But as Logan staggered back against the stairs of a fire escape and pulled one of Everly’s legs around his hips, as his hands navigated the fabric of her skirt to get underneath, her mind emptied of everything but him and how much she wanted him to touch her in all the right places. How much she wanted him in every single way.

His fingers snuck between her legs for one perfect second before the moment was shattered by the sound of a familiar voice far, far too close by.

Sady called Logan’s name, and a second later, his cell phone rang. She strode to the mouth of the alley and hollered, “What the hell are you doing down here?”

Logan and Everly sprang apart, and she aimed her back at Sady as she tugged wildly at her skirt. Logan was scrambling for his camera.

Sady’s phone was in her hand, but who knew if she’d actually recorded anything, since that thing seemed to be one of her vital organs.

A smirk crossed her face. “Dammit. Save that stuff for the camera, you two. That would have been such a juicy shot.”

“Funny,” Logan muttered.
