Pulling away from me, he assesses my face fully. His own ocean blue eyes seem to draw me into their current. Wave after wave crashes through his gaze as he drinks me in.
“Are you sure?” He doesn’t allow me to look away from the intenseness of his stare. It’s more than just waves. It’s a full blown tsunami ready to tear through the world on my behalf.
“This is the most sure I’ve been about anything in a long time,” I mutter. Fully expecting him to crash his lips against mine, I brace for the impact.
Other than…it doesn’t come.
Instead, he slowly brings those plush cushions to drag over my cold lips. Eyes fluttering closed, he takes his time with me. There’s a sweetness behind his kiss that’s clearly intentional. It’s at odds with his rough exterior.
Not that I’m complaining.
His tongue flicks my bottom lip, pushing my two apart to allow him in. Stars dance behind my eyelids, my brain turning foggy as he takes his time with me. The kiss feels meant to be, like I’ve waited my whole life just to be with him.
After what feels like an eternity, he pulls away slowly. His pupils are blown wide, the blacks nearly taking over the beautiful blue. He looks blissed out simply from a kiss. It’s a true vision, seeing him so worked up over something so small.
My core clenches with a need that I presumed was dead after the trauma I’ve endured. A fire ignites inside of me, flames licking my body as a renewed sense of belonging takes place.
I’m going to take back my life. Everything that was unwillingly taken from me, I’m going to bring it back to life. It’s going to be better than it was before, that’s for fucking sure.
“You’re a fucking Cobra,” Techy mutters, grabbing my chin softly and turning me towards him. With his own heartfelt kiss, he devours me. Without words, he affirms that everything is going to be okay. They’re going to make it better, one small step at a time.
Emotions pour from him straight into me, almost as if he’s filling my cup with love.
Love. That’s an emotion I’ve not felt since the day I was sold to trafficking for my parents to make a quick buck. For a few seconds, I debate if that’s what I’m really feeling. Maybe it’s something else like adoration or a sense of companionship. As waves of serenity fill my emptiness, I realize that it’s them. They’re filling me full of something I’d long forgotten.
It’s several long moments before Techy finally retreats, pressing his forehead against mine. Our breath match is beat as we attempt to catch them.
“We talked with Widower. We’d like to find you a spot in the clubhouse, if you’re willing.” Sitting frozen, my limbs zing to life. Initiating me as part of the club…
They must see the look on my face. “You’d be similar to what Maggie is, an honorary member. There are things we wouldn’t be able to share with you, but you’ll be part of the crew.”
“Do I get to learn to ride?” I ask, a thundering heat spearing through Nomad.
“If you mean by riding on the back of my bike, then yes.” I can hear the sarcasm dripping from his lips as he licks them. It takes everything in me not to roll my eyes at him.
“I mean learn to drive one, ding-dong,” I sass, moving to sit up a little more. Heaviness weighs down on my body, and the two men jump into action. They help me settle back in for a long night. Just as I open my mouth, my leg shoots burning pains up and into the rest of me. Groaning, I shut my eyes tightly.
“We’ll get Doc in here with some meds.” Techy shoots out of his chair, making haste out of the room. A small giggle escapes me as I think about everything they’ve done for me so far. The protection, the vulnerability. All of it. They’ve been my rock since we met. Even at my worst, they wanted me to be my best. Pushed me to get better without forcing me into it.
“Thank you,” I sigh, reaching out for him. His large hand encapsulates my smaller one. Warmth radiates from his palm as he draws slow circles on the back of my hand.
“You know we’d do just about anything for you,” he vows, leaning forward and brushing a gentle kiss on my forehead. “I’m sorry we weren’t able to be there sooner, pretty girl. There was a lot going on, then trying to track you down and get everything together-” Darting my hand out, it meets the back of his neck and yanks him toward me. A grunt mixed with a groan purrs from his chest as his lips slant over mine once more.
It’s like an electrical current zaps through me. I feel rejuvenated. Alive. Free.
I feel free.
Pulling away, more tears spring into my eyes. “Don’t apologize. I had so much hope…” I smile, shaking my head like an overly emotional idiot. “There was a small part of my brain that was sure I’d never see you guys again, that I’d be trapped right where I started. Then, there was a larger voice in my heart and gut that both agreed you’d be back to save me.
It’s cliche, the damsel in distress. Yet, there’s something mystifying about how they were able to find me.
“I hear a special patient is hurting?” Doc teases as she enters the room, Techy hot on her heels.
“Yeah, I feel kind of crampy.” She nods knowingly. Walking over to the IV, she checks everything before turning to the pharmacy cabinet. Swiping her card, the locker opens. After a moment, she grabs a small vile and needles, dragging out the liquid into the syringe and pushing it into my tubing.
“This will make you drowsy. You have a couple minutes left before you’ll knock out,” she informs with a small smile. Disposing of everything, she double checks that everything is good before exiting quietly.
It doesn’t even take a minute before there’s a lightness in my head from the medication. Ah, the good shit. Well, it’s good when it’s not forced on you.
