“Let’s go!” I shout, hopping into the back and slamming the door shut. Razor, Clubby and I get to work on stabilizing her condition. Placing the mask on her mouth and nose, I feel a pulse. It’s faint, but there.
“She might jump.” Is all the warning I get before they reposition her leg. The girl hardly shudders before falling limp again. That’s not good. Razor moves around, setting her leg in his lap so it’s elevated.
“ETA?” I shout, pushing air into her system.
“Less than five.” The three of us in the back grumble in protest, but if we go any faster, there’s a higher chance of drifting into a ditch.
“Flurries are coming down pretty heavy, Techy,” the prospect calls back, fishtailing slightly on a patch of ice. We’re thrown around, clawing at the bare metal to get a grip. “Shit, you guys good back there?”
“Yeah!” Clubby grunts, keeping a tight grip on the girl. Repositioning himself, he’s got her head in his lap now, yanking the bag valve from me. “You can do a facial scan while she’s with the doc, right?”
Looking at the girl, her dark hair is knotted and tangled, probably from months of not having the proper care. There’s dark black circles positioned directly under her eyes and in the hollows of her cheeks. Her complexion is damn near translucent, most likely from the lack of sun she’d gotten while in captivity. With the advanced technology, I have no doubt I’ll be able to get a hit on her. As long as she’s registered in the database.
“Boss?” Looking up, both guys have narrowed eyes and furrowed brows. Shaking my head, I nod.
“Yeah, I should be able to.” They don’t look convinced, but there’s nothing more I can say. Doc is amazing when it comes to wounds and battle incidents.
“I need more gauze,” Razor hisses as blood starts pooling around his fingers and dripping down. The prospect in the front passenger seat throws a roll of that wrap up shit and a few sealed things of gauze. I work to tear out the squares as we start swapping the bloody ones.
There’s a lot. The discarded ones are soaked and dripping onto the cold metal. I swear I can hear each drop hitting the flooring.
“Boss?” Snapping out of the red hazed trance, Razor moves the girls shirt up a bit more.
“Woah,” I start, only to catch sight of something inked on her upper thigh. “What’s that?” Leaning in closer, I realize it’s a symbol. Touching the spot, it’s hot and swollen, obviously pretty new.
“It looks like the cartel symbol, but I can’t say for certain,” Clubby mutters, squinting to see it as he pumps air.
“Turn!” We don’t have time to brace as we skid around a corner, coming to a complete stop. Peering out the front, I see the drive to the clubhouse. The two prospects jump out, assisting with the doors as we shuffle around the back.
“It’s going to hurt no matter what we do. Just go for it.” Razor and I glance at one another before I haul her into my arms bridal style. My chest constricts as she shivers against me, her head almost snuggling into my shoulder as we run toward the house. Barging in, I can’t help the way my heart hammers against my sternum. She’s too light in my arms, too small. Yet, she fits perfectly. Too damn perfect.
Her matted hair is dull from dirt and oil, yet I can’t help but think she’s still one of the most beautiful people I’ve seen. She’s got this angelic glow to her.
“What happened?” Nomad calls, trailing behind us. Snapping from my thoughts, I open my mouth, but nothing comes out. If I had a solid answer, I’d tell him. Unfortunately, I only know the tailend of things. Taking the steps carefully to not fall with her, I take her to the basement where Doc is set up.
“That’s bad,” she says, helping me lay the girl flat on her back. Once settled, Doc looks over the girl, finally reaching her face. Doc pales, jaw falling slack. “Holy shit.” Razor, Nomad and I wait with bated breath. After a moment, she kicks into action. Drips are started for pain meds, sedation and antibiotics. It’s a blur as she scrubs in, naming devices that I’m not familiar with. A few other prospects burst through the door, shoving us out of the way as they start prepping the girl.
“I need to be with her,” I call, pushing back against them. Something in me says that I can’t leave her. She needs us with her. Needs to know that we’re here for her.
“No, you need to let us do our job,” Doc calls, pausing with the clothing scissors. “Give the girl some damn privacy.” Finally backing away, I can’t get my feet to finish going the last little bit. A hand lands on my shoulder, pulling me backward.
“She knows her?” Nomad finally asks, forcing me to take the final step out of the room. A prospect shuts it and locks it, signifying that we’ll have to wait to know anything more.
“I don’t know,” I mutter, shock coursing through me. It’s hard to say what she knows, but she won’t tell us right now. I trust Nomad or Widower to get the information out of her.
Looking down, my body is covered in her blood. My jacket is dripping onto the tile floor, a puddle of the girl’s blood pooling beneath me.
I can’t dwell on it. For now, I’ll go clean up and hope Doc will open up in a little while to let me do my scans.
Chapter Five
Myhusbandshucksoffmy hands, spins on his heels and goes back up the stairs. His face is solid white, like he’d seen a ghost. Shit, maybe he had. I stare after where he disappeared up the steps, taking two at a time.
When he was asked to go, I wanted to stop him. He’s not used to the blood shed and torture of the club. While we’re the brawn of the group, Techy and his crew are the brains. The club trusts him to keep us safe from the confines of the house, none of them wanting to sacrifice the guy who can make their digital footprint go away.
“He okay?” Widower appears out of thin air, eyeing the puddled spot where Techy was just standing. The only way down here is the stairs. I don’t know how I missed her. “I’d think he wasn’t with the way he flew past me up the stairs. Damn near knocked me over,” she laughs, shaking her head.
“No, he wasn’t okay,” I mutter, moving my stare back to the door. The way he cradled her, refusing to leave her side. He’s never acted like this toward women. We’ve introduced them into our bedroom in the past, but he’s never done that. Never acted…territorial about them.
