One barrel or two? I can’t tell. They’re getting pretty blurry, maybe there are three of them. No, that can’t be. I know there’s only one of her, which would make one gun. Which one is her though? Who is she? Opening my mouth to protest my sudden quadruple vision, I can’t seem to get the words out into the open.
My eyes fall shut, and I work to keep them open, only to realize that they won’t move.
They’re stuck shut.
I can’t scream, I can’t call for help.
Nothing.
I’m nothing.
“Nighty night,” she mutters with a wink. Before I can even muster a question or retort, my limbs grow heavy and my body slumps. Slamming onto the floor, I know I should feel it. My body should at least be groaning in pain, but I don’t feel anything. It’s numb.
I’m numb.
Chapter Eighteen
“You’dgoforalot of money,” he tsks, dragging the knife through my tangled hair. When it catches on a knot, he eases the metal out of it without yanking it out.
“She would,” Stephan agrees, sitting back on his seat. He swirls the liquor in this goblet before taking a hefty gulp. What the fuck is this? The 19th century?
“But, she feels too good for us to ship her off again.” Ravi stands, walking over to where Stephan is sitting. His large hand rests on Stephan’s shoulder. Leaning down, he whispers something into his friend’s ear before taking a step back.
“What do you think, Charlie? Care to take the whore for a spin?” Stephan asks, setting the giant cup on the table and lifting himself up. They all stalk toward me, their eyes filled with nothing but hatred and lust. It’s not hard to see what they’re thinking.
Yanking on the chains that hold me bound, I wrestle to free myself. Metal bites into my skin where my flesh is thin from malnourishment.
“They’re not going to save you, little one,” Charles smiles, his perfectly straight teeth slowly getting that ugly yellow hue.
“One day I’ll be gone, and you’ll fucking regret everything!” I scream, thrashing against my restraints. In perfect time, they laugh at me and my continued failures to escape.
I don’t even know how long it’s been. I hardly sleep, so tracking through rest is near impossible.
“You’re waiting for the impossible to happen. Don’t worry, we’ll keep you right where you belong. Under us.” All three of them pounce, my head slamming into the table harshly and knocking me unconscious.
Why the fuck do I always dream about the craziest shit? Then, add the worst headache to follow. Is it weird that I swear I can feel the hollow of my eye pulsating?
Groaning, I try to rub my temples, bringing my hands up to my head. Other than…they don’t move. Another attempt to pull my arms up, but they’re stuck.
Okay, maybe it’s just sleep paralysis. The demons can’t get to me if I can’t see them…shit, yes they can. Taking a few deep breaths, I strain my muscles to get my arms up. Rattling echoes through my brain, almost like chains on concrete.
Flinging my eyes open, I go to sit up, only to realize I can’t fucking move. My head doesn’t even rotate. When I try to drop my jaw, it doesn’t drop. Using the zero mobility I have, I flicker my eyes around the bare room. There’s not a lot that I can see. Between the darkness and the concrete ceiling, I’m not missing much.
“Ah, look who decided to join us.” The warm blood in my veins seems to freeze over with his words. Footfalls slap against wetness, thesplashfrom each step. Now that I focus a bit, I can hear the slight trickling of liquid. A dripping noise.
It’s peaceful. Something I can focus on when I endure more life-changing pain.
“Deciding to be silent now?” Ravi spits, the splash of his saliva hitting my cheek. Instinctually, I go to wipe it away, but the chains on my arms keep them exactly where they are.
“You’d never know she was the same bitch who tried to run,” Charles cackles, rounding next to Ravi. From what I can tell and feel, I’m splayed in a star shape on a metal table. Some kind of contraption keeps my head still while chains hold my limbs.
“I can tell she’s in there somewhere,” Stephan coos, running something dull over my cheek. Flickering my gaze, I catch the glint of a knife in his hand. Everything in my body is screaming to run and hide, get out of there as quickly as possible.
My survival instincts from before? They’re screaming at me not to make a sound and be perfectly docile, just as they liked when I was in captivity last time.
The collection of saliva sticks to the back of my throat, forcing me to swallow heavily. Thinking back to my short couple months with the club, I’ve come to realize those guys have nothing in comparison to Charles, Stephan, and Ravi.
Nomad would help me with literally anything, Techy too. Crusher taught me how to aim and shoot a guy to the best of his ability since the student–me–was not very good at it to begin with. Maggie showed me the accounting and treasury portion when she saw that I was about ready to spoon my own eye out from boredom. Even Widower, the club president, took me under her wing to help me.
